Check out some old and new Florida classics

Let's look at several classic books, old and new,  set in Florida.  If you have a favorite that isn't included, please email me with the info.  Since the meeting is being posted well in advance, I'm open to additions or substitutions.

If you RSVP yes, please PLEASE PLEASE take time to also indicate which book (s) you have chosen! If you start your choice and don't like it, you can definitely go back to change your choice.  It definitely helps me to know what books are and aren't stirring interest. Also, I commit to reading every book that anyone RSVP'ing yes is reading if I get reasonable advance notice.

The list:

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

Last Train to Paradise: Henry Flagler and the Spectacular Rise and Fall of the Railroad that Crossed an Ocean by Les Standiford

Seasons of Real Florida by Jeff Klinkenberg

Swamplandia! by Karen Russell

Cross Creek by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean

Good mix of people and the book list sparked interesting conversation.

Per Debi's suggestion, I added Susan Orlean's The Orchid Thief to the list. This is reflected in an email I just sent to everyone who's RSVP'd yes.

Debra, that's an excellent suggestion, I love The Orchid Thief. If you commit to coming, I will either add it or substitute it for the book that's getting the least interest a month out from the meeting.
