Jax Adventure and Activity Group is one of the oldest and best attended Meet Ups in the Jacksonville / St. Augustine area. We offer Meet Ups for dancing, dinner, theater, comedy shows, wine tastings, outdoor events, and a wide variety of indoor activities like bingo, poker, and crafting workshops. Many of these indoor events are held in the homes of our members.
As most of you know, the host of our Meet Ups work very hard to plan and organize events for us. Most of them provide their personal cell phone numbers on the site so that you can contact them for directions, or call them with questions concerning the event they are hosting.
It has been brought to our attention that several of our members and/or organizers have been solicited, contacted, called, and/or stalked by people who are not in our Meet Up. This is totally inappropriate.
Currently, our Meet Up is set for public view. This means that all of our Meet Up details, including addresses of our host members, the photos taken at our events, and the phone numbers of our organizers, can be seen by any and everyone. Many of us are friends on Facebook as well, and this has provided non-members too much access to our private information, activities and photographs.
Therefore, in an effort to protect everyones privacy, we feel it is in the best interest of our members that we now change our Meet Up to private view.
This change will allow members only to see where and when we are meeting, and who is attending a particular event. It will also prevent non-members from viewing our photos, or contacting and soliciting us through the membership list.
Despite our best efforts to protect everyones privacy with this change, we realize some persistent people may attempt to beat the system by creating a fake profile that will allow them continued access to our calendar and membership list. Therefore, effective March 1, we will require anyone who wishes to join our Meet Up to provide us with a telephone number, and they will not be allowed into the Meet Up until they have personally spoken with one of the organizers. This may not totally prevent the occurrences weve experienced lately, but screening the new members is the best course of action we can take as your organizers to deter them.
As a member of our Meet Up, we ask that you do your part to protect your privacy and the privacy of others in the Meet Up. Please do not disclose or discuss the details concerning our Meet Ups, or our membership list, with anyone outside of our Meet Up. And, if you suspect that one of the profiles in our membership list is a fake profile, please alert us immediately so that it can be removed.
Lastly, several members have asked us why we charge $12.00 for annual dues. The dues pay the Administration Fee charged by Meet Up; they fund two annual events, our Anniversary Party and our Christmas Party; and they cover other miscellaneous things like door prizes, paper plates, etc. that are used at various events through out the year.
If you are currently on our membership list, and your dues are not paid by March 11th, your profile will be removed and you will no longer have access to our Meet Up. Should you wish to re-join our Meet Up after March 1st , your membership will be considered using our new guidelines.
