Mastering Predictive Modeling
Presented by Matt Berseth
Machine Learning is a powerful and emerging area that has enjoyed success solving problems in a variety of domains. It has been well documented in recent months by the Wall Street Journal, NY Times and other outlets how machine learning has contributed to significant revenue growth for companies including Amazon, Google, Target, Allstate and many others. However, developing machine learning solutions doesn't come without its challenges. What technologies and toolkit's are available and at what cost? What personnel skills are required? How are solutions integrated in with existing systems? What type of data is available? What data is required? How should models be evaluated? And most importantly - Where does one start when beginning a machine learning project?
These are all questions that need to be addressed as part of a machine learning project. In this presentation Matt will introduce the topic of machine learning, discuss what is considered 'state of the art' in the field and address the aforementioned questions. Matt has worked on a number of machine learning projects, including award winning ones hosted by Kaggle.com. He will take examples, both conceptual illustrations as well as sample code from these experiences to give the audience an understanding how to solve problems using machine learning.
As always, there will be free beer, soda, pizza and other snacks.
