Successful Local Case Study

For this meetup, we'll be switching it up and splitting the meeting into two parts: First, Jack Caven of InfoTech International will give a short presentation about a successful Big Data project here in Jacksonville. Then we'll be discussing the results of the survey and throwing out a few ideas for additional directions we can take Big Data Jax in the upcoming year, so be prepared to give your input and make your voice heard. Let’s work together and help this great group reach its potential.

If you haven’t already done the survey, please do so before the meetup:

As always, there will be free food and drinks, a relaxed atmosphere, and great people. Times: 5:30-6:15 – Beer, Pizza, and Networking
6:15-6:30 – Introductions and Announcements
6:30-7:00 – Successful Big Data Project in Jacksonville with Jack Caven
7:00-7:30 – Survey Results and Discussion
7:30-8:00 – Q&A and wrap up

Feel free to call Ben at[masked] if you have any trouble finding the Meetup!

Thank you Jack for giving your time to the group and showing us how to take a big data project from business need to finished product, and sharing the ups and downs of the experience. Thanks everyone for coming out and see you next month!!

I do feel like a pariah for bringing up Wolfram products within this group and even worse when there are no others that have actually seen or worked with them recently.
I would like very much to advance the local state of the technology so there will be more more jobs/work locally using them, but that requires exposure ... and no one can do that better than Stephen Wolfram himself; how does this group feel about that ?

Wolfram is a genius - are you sugggesting you are able to get him to speak with us (live or Skype)? If so, then I would be eternally grateful?

Jack, I do not have that clout! :) He is in fact a genius. I am not worthy to be on the same building as he. I think that anything short of understanding what and why of the things he has come up with is a disservice. It does take the time is takes... no shortcuts. I think that no one would do justice trying to explain his concepts, his vision and tools that he has amassed in over thirty years of dedicated effort. He does have several easily searchable videos captured on youtube , including the ones from 2014 SXSW, TED, and his New Kind of Science. (trust me, you will find yourself rewinding frequently as he trounces massive problems with ease) And I am sure my writing sounds like propaganda and worship, but I can not open the eyes of the uninitiated when it takes 90+ minutes when heard directly from him. The tools are amazing; but the concepts are nothing short of revolutionary.

Hey Sidney, get with me or Ben at the next meet up. I'd love to talk about some of the Wolfram software! Thanks, Katie

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
