JAZZ at BISLAS SPORTS BAR and LOUNGE on SUNDAY NIGHTS

This is a Jazz band that comes along once in a Blue Moon. We are playing a lot of the music of Ray Charles, Count Basie, Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Cannonball, and a whole lot more. The Trumpet player "Robbie Kwock" and Trombone player "Al Bent" worked with Santana, Al Jereau, Tito Puente, Pete Escovido, Ray Charles, Dizzy Gilespie and James Moody. Pianist/composer Eddie Mendenhall - Pianist - is a young music professor at Monterey Peninsula College, and serves as an instructor at the renowned Monterey Jazz Festival Summer Jazz Camp. Mendenhall's professional background includes a seven-year stint on the Tokyo jazz scene, and performing as a member of Ray Brown's Great Big Band for the last five years. Scott Barnhill - Tenor Saxophone, played with Zigaboo Modelist - and his Dad - Drummer Buddy Barnhill. Scott has played with Dick Gail for over 20 years. Dick considers him in the top ten list of the all time great Saxophone players hes ever heard. Finally the drummer with this great band Dick Gail - has worked with Dakota Staton, James Spaulding, George Adams, Joe Alexander, Eddie Harris, Ruth Brown, Walter Bishop Jr., Eddie Kahn, Groove Holmes, Rhoda Scott and Roy Liberto to name just a few. Dick says "We are a rompin Little Big Band and this is a collective of some great musicians - who are playing Jazz the way it should be played. There have been several other well known Musicians that have come by and Ill mention them at a later date. You never know who you will see at this club, listening to this Band. There is a Five or Ten Dollar door charge depending on the event.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
