Thanksgiving-like Potluck at Orchard Gables Mansion ~ and Music Jam!

On Saturday November[masked] (five days before Thanksgiving) we're having a delicious, fun and friendly potluck in the backyard at the 30' long single slab of redwood table. We can warm up our  casseroles and chill salads and desserts and carve a bird in the Hemingway Clubhouse and make a fire in the huge outdoor fireplace.Rusty and Julie, the owners of this fabulous mansion, have been so kind to allow us to gather here for a great event and they will join us if they aren't obligated somewhere else.

This will be on the Saturday before Thanksgiving - not on Thanksgiving Day. If you like the idea of eating under the redwood trees in your warm clothes with fun friends come join us.

Jazz musicians are highly encouraged to come enjoy the feast and please bring your instruments for a casual jam in this awesome place. The music will not be restricted purely to jazz, but we'll mix it up taking turns with different musicians leading different tunes.

We will have several artists from my other two meetup groups of painters and sketchers joining us (so far about 20 have RSVP'd yes).

You may bring a guest or two along - please ask them to bring something to add to the potluck table and BYOB.

Musicians carrying instruments or amplifiers, microphones, drums or a PA will be treated with extra kindness and you are not expected to also bring a food dish. Just bring your instruments and your talent and we will be most grateful and will serve you heaping servings of your favorite Thanksgiving items.

All other artists and guests, please bring enough to serve 8 of...

If your last name begins with A thru K bring a salad or stuffing.

If your last name begins with L thru S bring a vegetable, meat or pasta casserole.

T thru Z bring a dessert. (Pumpkin pie strongly encouraged.)

If you don't like where your name fits in the above suggestion, bring whatever you'd like.

Real plates, utensils and glasses are there. We should wash the dishes and leave the place tidy when done.

I'll bring paper napkins. Ed from our painter's group has volunteered to cook us a real turkey.
Call me if you have any questions. Thanks. [masked]

THANKS ALL! Who needs an expensive catering crew? We were our own! Huge thanks to everyone for pitching in to help run our fun show, serve each other, wash dishes, prepare food, cook and carve turkeys (Ed Porter), bring raffle prizes, organize and run the fun raffle and much more (Leah Cleveland). And how 'bout our awesome Hammond jazz organist, Pete Eveland - what a talented and entertaining surprise he was, huh?! What a blast we had - let's do it again next Thanksgiving if Rusty & Julie let us come back. Cross your fingers.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO RSVP for tomorrow's wonderful meetup opportunity for three meetup groups: the Sacramento Jazz Jams, the Sacramento Plein Air Painters, and the Sacramento Sketchers. Between the three, 28 members and guests will be attending. This is a great turn-out, although we can still accommodate more, so BRING FRIENDS!
There is an outdoor fireplace, but with the Delta breeze, you may also wish to bring a blanket and/or jacket. Don't forget to bring a dish to share, and a $5-$10 non-wrapped music or art item to add to the raffle basket. If you aren't able to bring a dish or gift item, please come anyway!
It's an easy drive from Sacramento. Take Hwy 160 south of I-5 for a beautiful drive along the river. We hope to see you there!

(This message is being posted on all three meetup sites. Please excuse the repetition if you are a member of more than one of these groups. Also, please RSVP on only one of the sites so we don't double-count you. Thanks!)
