I hope that you all had a great New Years and are now ready to start the new year with some great jazz at Sunday evening jazz.
Well let's get this "party started" as they say and jump right on in.
Sunday January 8 is not only the start of our new year with our jazz program, but it is also the introduction of Brady McKay and the Neurotypicals to our program. Joining Brady will be Bill Douglass on bass, Nahum Zdybel on guitar, Otis Mourning on reeds, and Kit Bailey on drums. Showtime is 5-8pm and the cost is $10/$5 kids ten and under. Call 916 723-5517 or email at JB's is located inside the Red Lion Hotel, 1401 Arden Way. Don't foret, to get the events in the Bee go to Type in Sunday evening jazz in the search below the calendar, hit enter and all of the upcoming shows will appear. Please tell all of our friends and family as well because items might not always appear in the Ticket section calendar under this new system.

Brady McKay, firmly steeped in the tradition of the musical stage, showed up in Northern California many years back and, in fairly short order, found traditional jazz music. She put her considerable talents to work on the genre and since has compiled a record of performance that has taken her to jazz boîtes and stages and cruises around the world. She was featured with Stan Mark's River City Stomperz, then fronted the Wooden Nickel Jass Band for several years. More recently, she has free-lanced with some of the hottest talent in the business.

Here, with her new band, The Neurotypicals, Brady performs with musicians of her own choosing, including the eerily talented clarinetist Otis Mourning, guitar phenom Nahum Zdybel, the steady and versatile drummer Kit Bailey, and jazz stalwart Bill Douglass on bass. Together, these five musicians have created a sound that is at once familiar and new. Relying on traditional jazz songs and styles for much of their repertoire, The Neurotypicals keep things fresh and can be counted upon to take dips and dives in unpredictable and thoughtful ways on every set. Original songs played in traditional styles; Golden Era stand-bys reset to newer grooves; long-forgotten and re-worked favorite from the ‘60s; daring excursions into unrehearsed mayhem; and thoroughly rehearsed, impeccable arrangements, may be heard at every performance.

Not a dance band, not a “show” band, not a tribute band, nor a star vehicle – The Neurotypicals is a new band, playing good music for discriminating audiences who expect to be entertained, provoked, inspired, and charmed.
