Announcing a new Meetup for No BS Just Jeeps Virginia Beach!
What: Shoe Creek Camping Weekend
When: August 21,[masked]:00 AM
Virginia Beach, VA 23452
heh, copied this from a previous camping trip to Shoe Creek - This is pretty much how we want our camping trips to be..... BS FREE! =D
You might want to ask "Why adults only?" Well, I have no ill will towards anyone's kids or pets. I love to take mine camping several times a year.
This is the chance to enjoy some adult conversation, to hit some heavier obstacles, to sit around the campfire, get your drink on, and to tell the really interesting stories without worrying about if yours or other peoples kids are within earshot. So you can have your fun both outside and inside the tent.
We plan on leaving early morning on Friday and try to make it to the mountain by 12-1 pm. I enjoy being the first one there to be able to claim the biggest and best campsite for the group. I get to set up the fire pit and do a walk around to police the area of any trash left behind by other campers. Not to mention get my tent up and gear ready to go.
Everyone is welcome to leave with us and Jeep-O-Van up to the mountain or you can come up later in the evening. We will be meeting at the Hooters in Hampton at 8:00am. If you plan on leaving late there is always someone who can bring your tent up early and we will have you all set up for when you arrive. We have done it several times in the past because we want everyone to have a good time and it just plain sucks setting up your tent in the dark.
I have the directions posted in the Files section. I also have my "Camping Checklist" posted there. It may not work for everyone but it makes for a good jumping off point.
About the mountain: This is not a highly technical trail. There are some spots along the ride that require a bit of a lift and a touch skill, but for every difficult area there is a very easy way around it. So even the most inexperienced driver behind the wheel of a stock Jeep can ride the entire trail and will have no problem keeping up with the group. I am the perfect example of this. I brought me jeep, bone stock, the day I bought it to this trail. I received No damage, never got stuck, and had a blast
A CB is a big plus but not a must. If you have one, we set the channel to 4 and the alternate to 22.
If you have any questions feel free to ask and I hope to see you all on the mountain.
: Please plan to camp for 2-3 days. That is, bring food, water, tent, blankets, Medicine, clothes and what ever else you plan to drink. You might ask "Why do you have to tell me this. I am an adult". Well, on a recent trip we had a guy who showed up with no food, water, alcohol, or other needed things. He was a burden on everyone all weekend.
: Please inspect you vehicle. Make sure you have a full-sized spare tire, the appropriate sized jack, a lug wrench, and anything else your Jeep/truck/Hummer might need to repair it in case of emergency. I mention this because the same guy got a flat, only had a stock-sized spare (Tires on the vehicle 33"), and didn't have a lug wrench.
: Last but not least, We INSIST that there is ABSOLUTELY NO DRINKING until your vehicle is PARKED FOR THE NIGHT. If you cannot control yourself while drinking, or if the addition of alcohol turns you into instant A$$hole, either don't drink on the trip or don't attend. We have had issues in the past that we do not need to be repeated.
Basically, we are all just big kids in our toys, but we happen to be in adult bodies. So, leave you issues at home. If your wife beats you, your girlfriend is cheating on you with the entire local high school football team, or if you are finally ready to come out of the closet to announce that you are a homosexual necrophiliac pedophile and feel you need to share that with someone, see a therapist. I am not one.
This trip is so we can play with our toys away from the distractions of the kids, dogs, and work. So lets go have a good time and go back to work on Monday with a story of what you did on the weekend that beats the sh*t out of what your lame co-workers did.
