Hi North Jersey Anime and Manga Members!
Time really is fast as tomorrow is February 1st already, and I will be stepping down as the main organizer of the group. The group will still go on, and it will continue to be a great group because of fantastic members like you. Lauren A, Geoffrey Young, and Cari Koblitz will take over the Meetup group. Joseph Salazar will be an assistant organizer as he will coordinate the monthly meetups with Geof. From tomorrow, I will be listed as an assistant organizer, and I will post an event once in a while. To round off the team, Dan Seiter, Ari, and Franck will be event organizers. They will try their best to post various events.
This group has grown so much. What started with just about 5 regular members (including Geof and me) has an average of 22 members per meetup now! There are a little over 50 active members. The great thing is that the number of regular members has steadily grown. I attribute this to how wonderful and friendly you all are. This is truly a group with very diverse tastes, but we have united over our general interests in anime, games, and/or Japanese culture. I have witnessed all the respect that each member gives to one another. From here, members can find (and have found) other shared interests and build meaningful friendships.
I have been the main organizer running the group (sort of as a dictator lol) since nearly its inception from October 2010. As I mentioned earlier, I will still be a member of the group, and I plan to attend some of the events. However, you will be seeing much less of me. To give some more details on why I am stepping down as organizer, I have restructured my priorities a few months ago. As many of you know, I am an actor with training from university. After graduating college, I lived in Japan for three years teaching English. Since coming back in early fall of 2010, I have delved fully into acting. The life of an actor is full of auditions, and I audition whenever I can. I am at the point in my career where I will be looking for an agent soon (after I get new headshots). As with many other struggling artists, I also have a side job. The hours are a bit inconsistent, and honestly, I am looking for a second side job. I want to put everything I have to further my acting career.
As much as I enjoyed organizing events and looking after the meetup group, I give myself more work than needed. There are some organizers out there that just slap events together, but I really wanted to make sure that members were getting the best experience they could out of North Jersey Anime and Manga. I was putting a good amount of myself into the group. As I have been devoting a lot more energy to my other priorities, I noticed that I was no longer the kind of organizer I wanted to be. I am somewhat of a perfectionist, and it was bothering me that I wasn’t able to pour all of my energy into the meetup group.
I have had countless of unforgettable and delightful memories from my time as the main organizer. I’m sure there will be many more memories to cherish in the coming days, months, years, and even decades in North Jersey Anime and Manga! Here’s to all of you on making this the BEST group! \(^O^)/
