Open Discussion: Retaliation in the Workplace

I wanted to escalate a comment made in one of our JobGroup mixers to the discussion board because I think it is a relevant topic worthy of discussion.

" [I] need an advice on how to handle retaliation in the workplace. I complained in writing about an employee who is constantly rude when her opinion is challenged and also when I heard a racial slur, "Hey, Mixed Bread" at work all in one week. Three work days later I was placed under disciplinary action saying I am "combative and argumentative." Has anybody been in this situation? I've never worked for a sterile place, but I've worked for places where employees practiced discretion and tact until my present company."
