PR Renegade

Why do we need you?

There’s lots of good stuff happening in the Meetup Community and the world needs to know about it.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop relationships throughout the Meetup communities on the phone, via email and in person so you can find stories that bring alive the power of self-organized groups and authentically represent them.
  • Craft and package creative stories to make them accessible.
  • Spot emerging cultural trends and find related stories within the Meetup community.
  • Manage activities throughout the news cycle.
  • Connect with the right people so you can get stuff done and not give up ‘til you find them.
  • Field incoming media inquiries.
  • Develop and maintain on-going relationships with traditional and online media.

The right person:

  • Is a PR renegade.
  • Has designed and executed a grassroots, political or community organizing communications strategy.
  • Has a track record of securing coverage from all kinds of media outlets.
  • Can reach out to strangers and convince them to embrace “the cause.”
  • Must have significant familiarity with the web; a “net native.”
  • Has experienced the transformative power of face-to-face groups.
  • Knows where to go and who to contact to get the story out there.
  • Keeps current with PR tools.
  • Has superior written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and tells a good story.
  • Is self-motivated, innovative, collaborative, and has high standards.
  • Has a proven background in brilliant execution.
  • Embraces the pursuit of getting Oprah to attend a Meetup.

Every member of the Meetup Team is expected to: be an Innovator; be a Collaborator; be a Champion for their ideas; be an Expert; have High Standards; be dedicated to the power of self-organized groups and our mission of A Meetup Everywhere About Most Everything ("MEME"); and most importantly, Get Stuff Done That Makes a Difference!

If the above describes you and your passions, please submit your resume and cover letter to jobs@meetup.com. Your cover letter must include salary requirements and what inspired you to apply for a position at Meetup. Resumes without cover letters will not be considered. Please put the job title in the subject line.
