Exposure - photographic exhibition walkabout

Please join us at In Toto Gallery on Saturday the 11th of May when the following five photographers will be giving an exhibition walkabout: Sally Gaule, Bob Cnoops, Michael Meyersfeld, st. John Fuller and Francki Burger.

Please arrive at 09:30. The walkabout will begin promptly at 10am.

From there, either head to Swartkops SAAF Airshow or join the Johannesburg Book and Movie Club for lunch/drinks at Wolves Restaurant.

Ten distinguished photographers come together with a wide range of subject matter, artistic vision and photographic techniques. This exhibition, which celebrates the medium of photography, will be on display from 11 April 2013 – 20 May 2013.

Artistic methods range from the simple yet exquisite use of pinhole photography created within custom, hand-made cameras to the ancient Alternative Photographic Processes resulting in light-sensitive emulsions that are hand-printed onto paper. Scenes stretch from historical moments that changed the Johannesburg landscape to everyday occurrences within Johannesburg that have been captured in a dramatic light, such as those taken from Michael Meyersfeld’s new “White on Black” series.

The exhibition was co-curated with Michael Meyersfeld, whose years of expertise in the field of photography provided priceless guidance in the selecting of participating artists and artworks.

“In Toto is proud to be hosting this exhibition and the ten photographers’ work are of a world class standard. With photographic subject matter ranging from landscapes viewed on meditative, long-distance walks to the surreal constructed sets that play with the idea of the role of the chimney within the home, to the eerie scenes of small South African towns, Exposure is to be enjoyed by those who are fully immersed in the world of photography as well as those who are eager to begin developing a taste for this dynamic form of fine art,” concludes Jacques Michau, In Toto Gallery (director).

The exhibition will commence on 11 April - 20 May 2013. Entrance is free and all works on display will be for sale.

This was great, I loved the stories that came out of this particularly on the SA history theme. It was great to know that Newtown had the first informal settlement, the irony in that.

It was also quite good to see different approaches to making photos - sometimes we get too boxed in the digital way and think its the only way.

Well done and thanks to all the exhibitors.

Interesting to see how different photographers appraoch the medium of photography. It was nice to have the actual photographers explain their work.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
