Take on the Houston Rodeo!

Jennifer's Number:  [masked]

Since many of you are new to Texas, and many of you are horse/hoofstock lovers, I thought we might do something outside the box and take a trip to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

I will be arriving at 11 to check out the carnival, the livestock area, the indoor shops, and all the other cool things.  If anyone would like to join me, please do!  The actual rodeo competition will start at 3:45 where we will make our way to the stadium and enjoy seeing the broncs and bulls try to tear up some cowboys.  Oh...we'll also see some 5 year olds hang on to sheep like little monkeys as they tear across the arena in the Mutton Bustin'.  Field level tickets are $24 or $25.  That price includes admission to Reliant Stadium, Reliant Arena, Reliant Center and the carnival.  It will be worth the admission just to watch me take on the mechanical bull!  Yay!  Backbrace, here I come!  :-)

I grew up in a more rural area, and my previous life experience includes horse training, riding Western, English, and sidesaddle (yes...in a skirt believe it or not). I have also been a zoo keeper where I have worked with hoofstock from all over the world. I love rodeos! And it is so utterly Texan, I thought some of you honorary or temporary Texans might like to see what a rodeo is all about.

But this is not just any rodeo! Oh no! This is Texas, and we like to do it big! The Rodeo has one of the largest purses (money paid out to contestants) in the world! This is an invitation only rodeo, so some of the best bull and bronc riders in the world will be here risking there lives.  There are major concerts, a huge arena, livestock show, horse show, carnival with great rides, lots of vendors, and tons of uniquely Texas foods including lots of Texas BBQ and fried everything! This thing is huge and very entertaining.  You will even get to go into the petting area to get up close and personal with cows, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, geese, and ducks...just don't turn your back on the geese...they are conniving.  :-)

Is anyone driving from the Sugar Land area that I can tag along with?

Hi Guys, if you want you can park around my complex and then we can walk there. It's about 20 min by walk. I live on Brompton street, and my street is usually pretty OK for parking during weekends lunchtime. Let me know, I am definitely walking to the reliant stadium. So what about tickets? Are we buying them separately?

Hey, Jennifer, about the tickets... The $24 tickets are for the field end zone & the $25 are for the sideline (per website). Should we all stay together in one or the other, or does is not make much difference? I don't know anything about this place...

I'm not sure how much it matters, but I chose the sidelines. When you buy the ticket, it will give you an assigned seat, but that is just for the purpose of selling the ticket. We can sit wherever we like in the area that we buy the ticket for.

Hi Jennifer, where do we meet, and do we have to purchase tickets in advance?

    February 13, 2013

    • Jennifer B.

We'll meet at the main gate. I would get your ticket ahead of time so you don't have to stand in line when we get there.

About the tickets...is field level like general admission, unassigned seating? Meaning we'll be together as a group?

I lived here over 20 years and haven't been to the rodeo yet, so take me out! Now!

Great! I was thinking of suggesting the Ft. Worth stockyard rodeo, which is my fave, but yeah, Houston it is!
