This may be the coolest Brazos Bend thing we've done! I have reserved space for 16 people in the Equine Primitive Camp Site in the very back section of Brazos Bend. We will meet at Brazos Bend's 40 Acre Lake parking lot at 1pm. We will have a nice stroll around the lake and get great looks at big gators. I know many of these alligators' habits, so we should get up close and personal with at least 2 of them at that time of day. :-)
All of the following photos were taken by me at various visits to Brazos Bend. To see more photos, go to www.flickr.com/photos/cooljennpics/sets
From there we will drive to the lot closest to the forest trails. We will gear up and begin our hike to the Equine Camp. It will be a nice quiet hike with only the birds talking. Very few people hike these trails. Once we make camp, we can go down to the Brazos River Beach which is very close by. This is a very unique sandy river beach with a sand cliff on the far side. It's cool to sit and relax on or explore a little bit.
When it starts to get dark, we will have a night hike which will allow you to have some unique experiences with the nocturnal wildlife in the park. There are no alligators where we will be camping, so don't worry about that. Critters you will get to see are armadillos (a ton of them!), raccoons, possums, deer, wild hogs (we will discuss safety ahead of time), and possibly a bobcat, etc.
We will return from our night hike and enjoy a well-deserved campfire. :-) The next morning you can choose to sleep in a little before hiking out of camp. From there you can go take a shower at the shelter facilities, get changed, and come with us to the Hindu Holi Mela (Festival of Colors) which is a free and incredibly fun event in nearby Rosenberg. Or, you can enjoy the park a little longer.
See you there!
