Krause Springs is a gem owned by the Krause family out west of Austin. If you have never been here, you have to come on this trip!
As you enter, you walk through a quaint garden shaded by large oaks filled with enormous deep wind chimes. You then walk down a flight of outdoor steps to a relaxing manmade pool. But if you keep walking, you will wind alongside a beautiful cypress lined creek to a fern filled grotto, miscellaneous water falls, and secluded swimming holes.
This place is gorgeous and amazing! The best part is that it is spring fed so there is always flowing water at a perfect temperature to swim in during the dog days of a Texas Summer.
It costs $14 a person to camp here. You pay when you arrive. They do not take reservations, but there is plenty of room to camp. You will need to bring cash. They do not take credit cards. If anyone wants to drive up Friday night, you can spread out your things so those of us that arrive Saturday morning can camp in the same area. There aren't assigned pad sites. You just throw your tent where there is space. Their gates are open 9am-9pm...period...so don't arrive late, or you won't be allowed in.
We will hang out in the Krause Springs area and relax all day Saturday exploring the river and woods and swimming our cares away. :-) After sleeping in a little on Sunday morning, I thought we could journey into Austin to stroll the SoCo district and the downtown area...possibly stopping by the Zilker Botanical Garden or renting kayaks on Lady Bird Lake before heading back home.
