Likes Nature and is curious to experience eclectic outdoors.
NEO is a Houston based 501(c)(3) organization that hosts events and activities in Texas and beyond. We are dedicated to introducing people to the many benefits of discovering the outdoors and sharing their experiences with others. NEO kindles a deeper passion for life by connecting people to nature and each other. Check out our website at www.NEOproject.org!
Our mission is to encourage people to live a more outdoor oriented and social lifestyle to improve quality of life and overall health, wellness, and longevity.
Many of our activities are family, kid, and pet friendly! Most of our events are absolutely FREE! We supplement our regular events with amazing cultural opportunities and travel adventures that are extremely low cost. Our goal is to make outdoor activities and incredible travel events affordable for everyone.
We love being outdoors! We want to make sure everyone has the chance to experience hiking, camping, backpacking, cycling, kayaking, rock climbing, and anything else they would like to try out. We love to travel and get out of the hustle and bustle of the city, and we want others to have this opportunity to travel with us in a safe and relaxed environment. NEO may host an all day hike at Brazos Bend State Park, a weekend camp at Pedernales Falls, or a cool mid-week night hike at Memorial Park. You could even find us introducing members to the Colorado Rockies on a long weekend! Whatever NEO does, we’re going to make some new friends, create amazing lifelong memories, and have a blast!
In addition to our “Wellness in Nature” events and trips that are open to anyone interested, in 2015 we are launching 3 programs specifically to benefit some special members of our community.
Through our “Kids Unleashed” initiative, NEO encourages kids and families to get off the couch, away from the video games and cell phones, and OUTSIDE. With the help of contributions and donations, NEO hosts events and clinics designed to teach kids necessary skills for enjoying outdoor activities and thriving in the natural world. Kids develop leadership and teamwork skills while learning about water safety, hiking, camping, nature and wildlife, and so much more! They are also introduced to people from all walks of life and from all over the world, giving them a broader understanding of the world and cultures around them.
NEO’s “Service to Serenity” program gives veterans the opportunity to “decompress” from day to day stresses and enjoy the calming effect of being immersed in nature…from simple day hikes to kayaking trips and multi-day backpacking adventures. This program concentrates on veterans of post 9/11 conflicts and those suffering from PTSD. These men and women benefit tremendously from outdoor and social activities that help them adjust to and thrive in civilian life. Many of NEO’s members are veterans who understand how rewarding and healing it is to develop a connection with nature. Our goal is to pass this on through frequent activities and ongoing support.
NEO is also incredibly excited to offer our “Nature for All” program benefitting people with various physical, emotional and mental challenges. We even offer events tailored to fit seniors in order to keep them strong and active. Studies have proven that exposure to nature and outdoor activities can have an incredibly healing effect both mentally and physically. Through our Nature for All program, NEO volunteers assist people in learning how to enjoy the outdoors no matter what their challenges through education, clinics, and outdoor events.
Donations and funding are key to these initiatives. Gear such as backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, kayaks, etc. is needed as well as office equipment and donated time necessary for day to day operations.
