Mothership Orchestra

Panichi is really one of Australia’s best players. His sound is powerful and intense – filled with conviction – you can hear New York in it – Drum Media.

Australia’s leading creative jazz orchestra, The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, pairs with one of Australia’s most accomplished musicians to celebrate trombonist / composer, Dave Panichi’s 50th Birthday.

Already a legendary figure of Australian Jazz, Dave has performed with the Buddy Rich Big Band, Bob Mintzer Band, Mulgrew Miller, Dave Liebman, Maria Schneider, Blood Sweat and Tears (to name a few) and during his 20-odd years based in New York established himself as a highly respected musician and composer in the toughest music scene in the world.

To celebrate this milestone event, the Mothership Orchestra has invited Dave to present a set of his large ensemble music, including some new compositions written specifically for the night.

With an opening set by the orchestra featuring their original compositions, this evening promises to be a special event not to be missed.

David Theak, Murray Jackson, Matt Keegan, Richard Maegraith, Nick Bowd (saxes) Darryl Carthew, Simon Ferenci, Angus Gomm, Tim Crow (trumpets) Dave Panichi, Jeremy Borthwick, Lucian McGuiness, Danny Carmichael, Colin Burrows (trombones) Aaron Flower (guitar), Hugh Barrett (piano), Brendan Clarke (bass), Evan Mannell (drums)

    •  It was a great night Jenny !!!. Sorry you couldn't attend but thanks for organizing it. Some others in the group have suggested the first Sunday in the month in Balmain at the Unity Hotel. I checked it out yesterday and it is from 4 pm until 8 pm.
    •  The band was B-I-G-G-E-R than big...A huge night. A capacity crowd. We had a great table thanks to Judit's foresight! Tah. Another great event. J
    •  Great music & venue. Lesley, Jonathan and me had a good night, but I don't know whether Wilson and Sofia turned up or not, because we haven't met them. We were talking about meeting again the first Sunday in October to listen the Dan Barnet big band @The Unity Hall, Balmain.
