Creating a Joomla Site in 3.x - Where to go and what to do

You're ready to start a new build; either for yourself or for a client. Now, you must decide...

Do I build in Joomla 2.5 or do I build in Joomla 3.x?

This can be a less than lovely process to look at and make a decision that is wise for yourself or a client.

In this meetup, we will discuss:

  • Criteria to look at when deciding what version of Joomla to build in
  • Components that are working for Joomla 3.x, how to find them and what to look for
  • Problems that may come up
  • Resources to help you figure out what to do
  • Future of Joomla 3.x release cycle
  • Migration from 1.5 to 3.x and if it is wise and how to decide

Join us for a talk on all this. Please attend as we are getting asked these questions every day at least once. It will be great to share our thoughts and experiences with all of you.

This is AN ONLINE MEETUP. It is virtual. There is NO physical meeting anywhere.

You may/must RSVP up to 1 hour prior to the meetup. The GoToWebinar login and call information will be emailed to you approximately an hour before the meeting.

When you RSVP Yes, there is a field you can enter any questions you have about Joomla 3.x. We will do our best to integrate them into the webinar.

I am really glad I participated. I came away with more than a handful of key points and suggestions that I will be using immediately. Thanks to all for participating and thanks to the organizers for taking the time to personally and clearly answer questions from all experience levels.

Good discussion, something for all experience levels. I thought our three moderators did a great job of keeping things moving, yet giving precise answers to specific questions.

Was a great information packed event. Was great that I could "Commute" to this event in my bare feet <grin>. Lets have more webinars. Maybe even I can do one. Don't be shy about charging for a webinar the organization needs some funds.

Coolness. I'm still afraid to do any real work with 3. This gave me some insights

there's time. no one says you have to be an early adopter. i would have waited for production until 3.2 but if the client insists and has the budget, then so be it. ;) i really like working in it. and i play on a test site.

I don't know how much effort it will require for the organizers to record the 'GoToMeeting' but there are instructions from Citrix starting here:

    http://support.citrixonline.com/en_US/gotomeeting/all_files/GTM080001

    Hope this helps.

thanks warren. yes, recording the webinar is simple. yet it's HUGE. a simple client training for 45 minutes is about 300MB. an entire meetup will be gigantic. so, while yes, it's possible and "easy," i'm not sure we will be posting it somewhere. thanks for the message though!

On the Prostar template: How to get rid of joomla logo on tab and where are the hidden features like drop down menus ( nav-pills) documented?

    July 30, 2013

    • Jennifer G.

when it comes to the browser tab, it's a favicon. you'll need to create a new favicon with favicon.cc or something like that and then upload to your root or the root of the template via ftp. when it comes to the dropdowns, you might want to check http://forum.joomla.o... for more info on protostar.

Hello, I won't be able to attend this meetup even online, but I hope someone will post a summary and if the webinar is recorded it would be great to be able to listen/view it afterwards.

My first Joomla 3.x website is developing well and I'm getting to like the admin interface. I'm getting closer to migrating my first Joomla 1.5 website to 2.5 or 3.x and a few clients are interested in having me do such a migration for them, so I'm still interested in the migration topic. Your question for the meetup sounds good: is it wise to migrate (vs. what alternatives? - rebuild from scratch?) and how to decide.

    Cheers,
    Carol
