Annual Holiday Joomla! Extension Potluck &/or JWC Highlights

Merry Christmas Bay Area Joomlaverse,

We are excited to announce our 4th Annual Holiday Joomla Extension Potluck!

For those who have never experienced this event, we can only say that it is always the best time we have all year. Learning. Food. Drink. Fun. You can be as involved as you want to on the extension sharing... listen and learn, or share your knowledge.

Timeline:

6pm - 7pm: Eat. Drink. Networking Merry.
7pm - 9pm: Extensions. Site Sharing. Learning.
*note that if coming by car volunteers will be available to bring up your food item before you park. Info on this will be sent to all attendees about this and carpooling too.

How it Works:

• Each of us brings a dish, food item, drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) to share with the group. The creativity is amazing, and always so tasty.

• OPTIONAL: Folks who are inclined can share a Joomla! extension. Each person will have only about 10-15 minutes to share a mini-presentation on an extension you like using and think the group would too. Note: it must be a 2.5 or 3.x extension - no more 1.5 demo's for extensions please.

• Alternatively, if those who attended the Joomla! World Conference would rather share some of the highlights of the Conference, instead of an extension, that is cool too.

Please enter your name, food dish and extension (or JWC) into the Google spreadsheet for the Extension Potluck so that we can all plan accordingly.

This event will be held at the NextSpace Union Square in San Francisco. It is upstairs from the BART Station. You can BART in, park at a BART and take BART, ride a bike or drive in and park. Here's what NextSpace says about getting there:

Getting Here:
See Maps of Area at Bottom!

1) Take public transportation? Easy. We’re located right above the Powell Street BART and Muni station.
2) Need to park your car? A good price, and recommended Garage is at http://www.eofgarage.com/ OR Check out the Yerba Buena Parking Garage that’s only a block away: http://www.fifthandmission.com/home.htm. Or want a better rate for a longer walk? Check out this garage at Turk and Taylor for only $10/day with in and out privileges http://www.sfparkinggarage.com/rates.
3) Going green and riding a bike? There’s no bike parking in the building but you can definitely lock your bike right outside the front door near the lobby and you’re all set!

This event is no charge. We will supply paper products.

This will be a great way to close 2013 after another great year working with Joomla! and each other.

Looking forward to seeing you there!!

Happy Holidays,

Jenn & James

Good interactive presentations. Sitting around small tables close together got us talking to each other. Thanks for keeping us on schedule in a polite way Jenn. Delicious food, thanks for the hot meat lasagne - yum! Also the chicken tangene was tender and very tasty. Always interesting to see people showing off their websites and how they developed them and it's great to be able to get questions answered in real time.

I'm so glad I attended. I can see that there's so much to learn from these meet ups. It's sure a good community of people. And who would have known that besides James being a Joomla god that the boy can bake? Can't wait to download a couple of the featured extensions.

This was a truly excellent meeting. I came with a question about cloud storing solutions in hopes someone at the meeting would be able recommend one that would fit my needs. I am currently using Ubuntu One and it is a pain.

I never had to ask the question because Jsmallfib was the solution. I am going to hide an article (attaching it to the hidden menu) in the SCSF.org site, which I control and Jsmallfig to let my non-SCSF.org users browse and download files.

I was also turned on by LittleHelper.

And, folks drank about half the pepper vodka i brought. I wasn't sure people would have the nerve.

Lots of very useful information on a multitude of areas. I am incorporating today several of the things that I learned last night. My clients are already benefiting from what I learned at the meetup. How much better can it get.

    Jen, James,
I hope I can make it. I have a bad cold at the moment, but if I recover by Wednesday, I would love to come. Can bring wine and cookies

Mary, I was just thinking about you and wondering how you are going. You get better and heal. I had that cold too and it was awful! Hope to see you and if we don't then Happy Christmas or Merry Holidays or Hanuka...!

I'll also bring an appetizer of some sort (to be determined!) My extension: JSN Imageshow for a variety of slideshows.

    1 · November 28, 2013

  • Linda J.

I'll bring an appetizer plus I'll share a Joomla 3.0 Portfolio extension for showcasing team members or other 'subjects/products'.

    Hi Jenn and James,

Thanks for setting up this sure-to-be informative and entertaining meetup!

I don't seem to be able to enter anything into the Google Spreadsheet. Can you make my entries for me? For "Food Dish to Share" it will be some kind of cookie or bar dessert, and for "Extension to Share" it will depend on what others sign up for, but it could be one of: rquotes, Simple Image Gallery, or ShackSlides.
