Our agency is 23 years old. We develop brand strategies. We have copywriters on staff and hire freelance.

If you're going to develop something of substance then your communications platform, your go-to-market strategy needs a pay off. Communications that are integrated serve this purpose. Copy, images, video, brand essence, SEO, etc., are all elements of a well crafted communications platform.

In the old days (and still today), a copywriter was 50% of the team developing the communications strategy, Working with a designer, the copywriter understood the market situation (the problem) and came up with a compelling, creative solution to engage users. This is the "pay-off". It needs to be meaningful and relevant in the eyes of the customer for actionable results, planned results. This doesn't happen by accident. It is through research, creative development and experience where a good copywriter can make a difference. Like anything, you get what you pay for.

Decide what kind of copywriter you want and be clear when hiring someone. Tell them what's expected of them.
I've found the clearer we can be upfront, the better.

Hope that helps.

Dave

Thanks Will for the feedback.
By the way I'm not the person inquiring about the $100.00 budget. My budget was not mentioned as I am looking to create a budget for this project based on market rates.

Could you please clarify something in your reply - Are you suggesting I would need 3 different people to develop copy that is SEO with a marketing bent copy for a website??  Can anybody (copywriters) walk and chew gum at the same time anymore? Whew.
It's hard to believe as I know if that were my field I would certainly cross train myself in ALL of the relevant areas.

You have two different things going on here.
1. Copywriters themselves are not expensive, not too much.  Assuming you want someone you can *meet* in person, you should be looking at $25 per hour more or less.  But they won't necessarily have the 2. SEO experience which deals with *placement* in Google search results, and then the 3. *marketing* experience which causes the reader to buy something.  That's three different animals really.

Google is very *content* heavy and your pages won't show up if you just repeat what five hundred others are already saying.  You're asking someone to write something unique, trustworthy, and well documented about your product (with outbound links).  That's the way to get to the top of the results.

That's why I said your hundred dollars budget isn't much, it probably amounts to maybe two articles on the front page of keyPHRASE searches (not keyword)

Hello Group,
Can I ask what the "actual" going price per hr./page/word for a copywriter (your actual experience only please) is with the essential skill sets to be "effective*" (ie. marketing/writing talent along with up to date SEO knowledge.)
+ (of course if they can actually navigate within Joomla and place the text in the articles with the proper headings that would be ideal but perhaps too much to ask in this age of micro specialization.)

* effective =
1. copy/text peppered with relevant keywords (in manner that is commensurate with current search engine algorithms) whereby those most likely to want your service or product will find site easily 1st -2nd page results.
2. marketing text that results in conversions (of course this assumes a quality product/service is offered.)

Thank you in advance for actionable advice.

Bill

$100 is barely an entrance fee :)

My only comment is "$100 budget" doesn't inspire a lot of takers
