Welcome to the bi-monthly meeting of the Joomla Users Group! Please join us for a tip & tricks exchange between fans of the world's most popular web development tool!

NOTE: This meeting is on a Monday to avoid conflict with the PHP User group meeting.

All welcome: Novices, tech-phobic business owners and web developers.

BRING:
A laptop with WI-FI card to get the most benefit out of the meeting.

PURPOSE:
To provide peer support to help you create your dream site using Joomla!, one of the hottest open source content management systems available. Your imagination is the limit. Joomla allows you to leverage a content management system to make profitable, sophisticated websites for little to no investment other than time.

LOCATION:
Central Market, Plano, Community Room A Located in shopping center at Northeast corner of George Bush Freeway and Coit Road. Go to the Cafe On the Run and the take the stairs or the elevator to the 2nd floor. Community Room A is down the hall to the right.

COST: In exchange for dining establishments allowing us to take up valuable space for extended amounts of time, we ordinarily require that each person either order something to eat OR pay a $5 fee, which is given to the restaurant. Since this location is not a restaurant, we are waiving that requirement. Note, however, that no outside food or drink is allowed. So pick up something in the Cafe if you want something to eat during the meeting.

AGENDA:

  • Introductions: The meeting usually begins with brief introductions around the table.
    • Introduce Yourself
    • What is your name?
    • What do you do?
    • How long have you used Joomla?
    • Would you care to share the name/URL of a website or websites you're developing?
    • What do you hope to gain from these meetings?
    • Do you have any preferences for future meetings and times?

  • Announcements: We usually take some time for announcements about Joomla, Joomla Events, or accomplishments.

  • Topic of the Day: Templates.

    • Kyle Ledbetter will demonstrate Joomlapraise's new administrative template, AdminPraise2
    • Kyle and Cory will be talking about what makes a good template and creating a custom template

  • Q&A: Attendees will be given the opportunity to ask questions
  • Drawing for Door Prizes!
  • WrapUp, Pay for food (single tickets), Networking, and Planning for the next meeting.

Huge Thanks to Cory and Kyle for driving up to present at this meeting! You both did an excellent job! Thanks to Jeff Morris for bringing a projector as well. Despite the fact that the internet connectivity left a lot to be desired, the meeting was a success!

       Excellent. Lots of good take-aways.
    •  Cory and Kyle were knowledgeable about Joomla and very informal, shared lot about the product, looks like must buy book. I wish more time was given to Cory to discuss about designing templates, he barely covered basics. We did not have any time left to discuss his experience with his project templates. Lot of time was spent in marketing Kyle’s template (Kyle was extremely good in explaining his template, slick template, we may buy it) even though Cory’s book deals with Joomla Admin template. New comers like me are still trying to understand the Joomla Admin template. In the future I wish you allocate 70%- 30% (share Joomla knowledge to marketing a product).
    •  They were fantastic! Cory Webb was very informative: must buy his book. Kyle Ledbetter from JoolmaPraise.com was fascinating. Love the new Admin Template Joomla Praise developed. The inside info on Joomla 1.6 was certainly an eye-opener. Great job Wilma! Thanks, Larry
    •  best joomla/dallas meeting to date!!! speakers were excellent!! brought my daughter this time - she's building a joomla site for her husband
    •  Huge Thanks to Cory and Kyle for driving up to present at this meeting! You both did an excellent job! Thanks to Jeff Morris for bringing a projector as well. Despite the fact that the internet connectivity left a lot to be desired, the meeting was a success!
    •  Thank you Cory and Kyle for driving all the way up here to give a great presentation. It's always nice to hear from other professionals about how to make the most out of Joomla!. Please free to join our group anytime you are in the area.
    •  I had a great time meeting everyone last night and talking about one of my favorite subjects, Joomla! Thank you all for letting us be a part of your group last night. I look forward to doing it again sometime!
    •  All the meetings are good, but this was one of the best!
    •  WOW! That was great! Thank you Wilma, Kyle and Cory - excellent presenters! Please come back to visit.
    •  Cory's template presentation was great, I can't speak for myself :)
    •  Very good meeting on templates. 2 hours went quick
    •  I really enjoyed the speakers and I did pick up a couple of pointers that will help me in the fure when building templates. I will be back!
    •  Very informative to hear tips and advice from the experts! I learnt a lot for free, it doesn't get any better than this. I will join JoomlaPraise to try out their templates.
