Re: RE: [webdesign-490] Screen Share Options

My join.me account allows screen sharing, unlimited participants, passing presentation role to someone else, etc.  It's lightweight and works well for most people.  There are other free/cheap tools (Big Marker, AnyMeeting, etc.).

The simplicity of join.me appeals to me. I don't have to waste a lot of time getting people up and running with it.

In the past, I would do an online meeting every two or three months on a week when a regular meeting wasn't scheduled. I didn't want to reduce attendance at in-person meetings so I didn't do them every month and I usually focused on beginner level topics (with a few exceptions).   I haven't done this in a while.

I did some digging around.  The screen share feature is still there, but the 10 person limitation would be a problem for sure.

Sincerely,

Did they drop that feature?  Seems to me that it did at one point in time...

Andy, I already asked that. Apparently it doesn’t do screen sharing.

Why not just use a Google hangout?

I use WebEx and Lync both for work. We have enterprise accounts. Of course they rock, but it would be a bit cost prohibitive for a group that generates no revenue…..;)

Never used join.me, but it appears to be part of LogMeIn of which I am a paid subscriber. It seems to be separate from LogMeIn’s features, but how well does it work?

I have occasionally used join.me (among other tools) for virtual meetings. People  still need to meet in person sometimes to foster that sense of community. We probably need to get more involvement from our local group instead of doing it all ourselves so that people feel more invested in the group.

I wish there was a way to virtualize these somehow. I have canceled the last two Garland meetups due to lack of participation. Maybe if there was a WebEx type thing more people would attend more reliably. Has anyone tried Google hangouts?

Maybe its time for a "Joomla Jam"... Could be something like a Word Camp.
