Going off on your own is scary. Freelance work might seem daunting, especially when it comes to working with your own clients! Questions such as "What do I do?", "What Should I Say?" and "How much should I charge?" probably are big questions that come to mind first.
A little over two years ago, I started going freelance. I was totally green, and made a few mistakes along the way. Fast forward to now, and I have a small but profitable business, the Detroit Web Developers. This success obviously didn't happen overnight, and took countless hours of smart work and trial and errors.
I'd Like To Show You How To Go Freelance
In this meetup, we'll start with a quick overview of what it means to go freelance, and why it's not for everybody. It's a rough job, but if you think you're up to the challenge, come to this meetup!
We'll also take a look at how to deal with clients. What you need to consider, things you need to know, managing your client's expectations, and how to properly communicate.
Once you have secured your first job, we'll go into what you need to know to go freelance seriously, and why you shouldn't quit your day job immediately (I still put in a 40+ hour week at the Zoo). We'll go over time and project management as well as the legal requirements of being a freelancer.
Finally, you don't have to freelance alone. We'll touch on sub-contracting work out to make your life easier and more manageable.
Join us on August 26, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Detroit Zoo, Ford Education Center Conference Room if you're interested in learning what it takes to go freelance!
