San Francisco Bay Area Journalists is a nonprofit group of journalists navigating the transition to the next era of journalism by sharing insights on high quality reporting, sustainable jobs, diversity, editorial independence and press freedoms. (We also have a lot of fun!)  Our meetups are all free or low-cost.

SF Bay Area Journalists operates as part of Newswire21.org, an award-winning nonprofit news organization focused on finding sustainable ways to blend the passion of community reporting with the best practices of traditional journalism.

We meet throughout the Bay Area, and our meetups follow four major themes:

* Startup to Success: Helping new and mid-career journalists learn skills that lead to jobs in today's media environment (EG: Learning WordPress, video, social media, etc.)
* Rethinking Coverage: Dealing with the ethical, entrepreneurial and practical issues of covering today's top stories through new media. (EG: the California prisons, Middle East uprising, etc.)
* Community Voices: New community news organizations face opportunities and challenges. We talk about competition, citizen journalism, funding and more.
* Networking: We hold FREE informal networking sessions to give our members a chance to share job leads, business cards and a few laughs.
