SFJS #14: MongoDB, Angular.js and Backbone.js (Cohosted with MongoDB Meetup)

Brian Noguchi of Shortrr will present about MongoDB and Node.js.

Adam from 10gen will be there with some Mongo swag. 10gen is hosting a JS/Mongo webinar on July 22, if you'd like some background.

Miško Hevery will present on Angular.js:

Angular is what HTML would have been, if it was designed for web-apps. Web-apps are afterthought in HTML and it shows. What angular brings to the table is:
  1. Opinionated structure on how a CRUD application should be built.
  2. Impressive Data Binding story, where the model is the single source of the truth.
  3. Embrace HTML and turns it into declarative DSL which gives the developer the ability to make up one's own HTML tags/attributes
  4. Amazing testability story, both on unit-tests and end-to-end tests

Ambert Ho will prsent on building realtime, single page apps using Backbone.js and Node.js

Food and drink are sponsored by PubNub, a simple real-time communications API using bi-directional JSON (check out that video link)

Brian was scintillating as always - I'd encourage anyone looking into Node.js understand the trilogy of power - the christkov native libraries that most other mongo systems are built on, mongoose, and a much smaller library, node-mongolian, which maps very well to the console commands.

First off, I learned a lot last night. In the future, I'd like to see SFJS organizers keep speakers to around 30 minutes. While I learned a lot about and became interested in MongoDB and Angular.js, I primarily went for the Backbone.js. Since I had to run straight after his talk, I didn't have the opportunity to network like I would have liked. In spite of the organizational challenges, I think it went well and you can be sure to see me at future events!

Good presentations. A little crowded, not enough pizza for all, and would have been good if Ambert had enough time, but good overall.

Personally, thought I don't know what's normal, I would've liked some manner of activity afterwards to continue conversation. =)

mongo talk tried to get too much in; angular was good; backbone could have presented some code/examples.

A little too busy -- I think in the future you should artificially limit attendance to make seating more comfortable.

    I thoroughly enjoyed each presentation.

Unfortunately I couldn't stay to hear all Ambert Ho's backbone.js talk, but I'll definitely check out the site.

More stuff to dig into, take up time in my already busy life, and place in my quiver. I can see that I'll be drawing the bow with Angular.Js very, very soon.

    PubNub's video rocks!

The MongoDB and Angular.js talks were really informative and interesting. MongoDB mugs were a huge plus. :) Great meetup!

The video made me thirsty for more specifics -- jQuery already provides me with biDirectional JSON -- what is the differential features that pubNub adds?

  • Libby B.

I second that - seriously, check out the video.
