Erick Tai will present Adding a Backend to your JS App in Minutes with StackMob

HTML5 and JavaScript are accelerating how quickly applications can be developed and deployed across platforms. Many people associate HTML5 with new front-end features, but it doesn’t end there. HTML5 and JS also plays a huge part in enabling developers in adding a scalable backend quickly and easily. StackMob built its open source JS SDK to provide server-side backend services for your web app. You can now create a database table in just two lines of JavaScript code. It enables people to save and fetch data to a backend or call your custom server side API in just minutes. You'll even be able to host it for free on StackMob through your own custom domain so you don't even have to worry about deploying it somewhere. It's all free - backend, datastore, hosting, all via StackMob's backend platform.

Greg Tomei will present on TDD for single-page apps:

In this presentation, we will use the MVVM pattern and TDD to create a responsive single-page app, and a code base that is modular, easy to extend, follows best practices, is well-tested, and is fun to develop. We will work through a brief a demo app that makes use of techniques I picked up on a recent project that features drag'n'drop with automated tests, ajax calls, and methods to keep the client-side and server-side in sync. The demo will use Coffeescript, Knockout.js and jQuery for the app; Jasmine, jquery.simulate.js for testing, writing the tests in Coffeescript too via Rails' asset pipeline.

Jasmine 1.2 officially released. they call it a minor one, but they quietly got support for rails asset pipeline in there.

I came for the presentation on TDD, but I was very disappointed when the presenter only spent about 1 minute glossing over the TDD code. Overall it was superficial and did not go into any details beyond what libraries were used. I would have liked to see more discussion on the approach to writing good unit tests and solving common issues with testing in an asynchronous environment.
