It's time for SF JS #3 hosted by Serious Business and sponsored by WaveMaker. (7PM-9:30PM - Monday, August 18th, 2008 - 580 Market Street, 6th Floor, San Francisco CA, 94104) As always, we will have plenty of awesome JavaScripters attending, a number of great talks on cutting-edge scripting concepts, and excellent networking potential. Come and hang out with the best scripters in the Bay Area, learn a lot, eat free food, and have fun. Agenda 7:00PM - Event starts and food (...and lots of it!) will be ready for eating 7:20PM - A few words from our hosts, sponsors, and us 7:30PM - An hour of high-quality talks and demos (5x12min) 8:30PM - Networking, talking, learning, discussing, more questions for speakers, more eating, whatever... 9:30PM - Start to wrap things up ...and afterwards at least a few of us will head down to a local bar and carry on the conversation. All are welcome to join! A couple things we're doing differently this time:

  • Talks will be strictly 10 minutes + 2 minutes Q&A (we'll have the timer out--really, we will!)

  • We'll have soft copies of talks on a backup machine to minimize projector/computer troubles and delays should we have any (apologies for the minor glitches last time)

  • We're going to have a ton of food/drinks/etc (much more than ever before) thanks to our extremely generous sponsors (WaveMaker)

  • We're closer to Bart, bus, and parking (under Union Square is the best bet--2 block walk)

A message from our sponsors (WaveMaker) --- Hi everyone! Thanks for coming out to the JavaScript Meetup Monday night. We hope you had a good time, saw some cool stuff and maybe even learned some new tricks. As promised, we drew our winner for the "WaveMaker Blue" iPod shuffle. Congratulation to Eric Bryn, the lucky winner. Congrats, Eric!

(continued from above) --- For more chances to get cool stuff, check out our Developer community, dev.wavemaker.com. We're pretty serious about community at WaveMaker and have been known (notorious ?) for giving out iPods and other goodies as a result. Ed Callahan runs our dev community and would love to hear from you on the forums. Drop him a line at [masked] to share your ideas or to find out more about getting involved in the WM Dev Community.

Great set of speakers, and nicely organized event. I liked the pace and the mood. Good balance of incredibly geeky conversation and high-calorie munchies. :)

    Hey all,

Thanks for coming last night. It was a lot of fun, and I hope you all had a good time. I started a SlideShare page for the meetup with all of the talks that were via PPT last night:

Also, I will post other links as appropriate, but you can grab Aman's JsSocket stuff on GitHub here:

If you guys have any other questions, comments, suggestions, or whatever, don't hesitate to shoot me an email.

    All around good.
Would have liked to see more code.
Would have liked to see more stuff on Javascript itself, as opposed to what is being done with it.
Douglas Crockford's open forum was fantastic. I'd totally encourage more stuff like that.

It seems that each Meetup will require a bazillion connectors to handle all the different laptops of the presenters. Maybe request that each attendee bring at least one kind of connector.

    The presenters were poor:
    - only about 1/4 of them were interesting; others were vague and content-lite (especially server-side javascript)
    - they had not rehearsed sufficiently

Hey everyone, I wanted to pass on the speaker list for the meetup tonight so you can see the topics. It's looking like a killer lineup, so make sure you spread the word about the event. The speakers are:

WaveMaker - A cool new product demo
    Douglas Crockford - JSLint
    Aman Gupta - JSSocket
    Ian Selby - Server-Side JavaScript
280 North - (TBA--but it will inevitably be cool)
Xoopit - Gmail integration via Greasemonkey + JS
Chris Van Pelt - MooTools and images

You don't want to miss it!
