Hi, I'm Jared Rhine, Director of Engineering at Xtranormal. I'm the hiring manager for the senior JavaScript-focused position listed below. Xtranormal provides web-based tools for anyone to create 3D animated videos. Senior Web Applications Engineer

Xtranormal is looking for full-time senior engineers to join our great team in San Francisco. This position will focus on building our web and mobile story telling applications, using confident integration of HTML/CSS/JavaScript layers with a heavy dose of modern tools and approaches.

The candidate must be a strong individual contributor with lead potential, have a collaborative and open style, and take pride in innovative work done well. The candidate will report to the Director of Engineering and will participate in cross-functional projects and core engineering initiatives.


  • Build new web and mobile applications as needed to support Xtranormal product plans
  • Own significant portions of critical client-side modules such as movie creation UIs
  • Maintain existing applications and allocate a portion of time to working a ticket backlog
  • Promote high quality of HTML/CSS/JS code and help develop client-side architecture and practices


  • 4+ years experience developing standards-based interactive web pages and full Javascript applications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HTML5 (and earlier) standards with browser quirks, DOM and events, JavaScript syntax, and modular client-side development
  • Reviewable portfolio of interactive web pages, sites, or applications
  • Experience with server-based MVC implementations with templated and Django/Rails/ASP styles of development
  • Bonus for significant skills in a few of the following: Django/Python, mobile web development, HTML Canvas, iOS/Objective-C, Android/Java, Flash, SQL/ORM, Unix, video animation/rendering
