Urban Jews singles?

It has been a very long time since I've logged in here, but I got an e-mail about the happy hour coming up this Thursday. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend, but wanted to find out if there would be any interest in a Jewish singles meetup somewhere down the line? Just want to see if there is anyone interested in an event like this with hopefully an even amount of girls and guys at which point we can figure out where and when. I imagine most everyone in this group will get an e-mail sent to their personal e-mail account. If you are or aren't active within this group, but would like to be a part of an event like this, please respond. The more people we get the better it will be.

Thanks to those that came out on Thursday night. To those that came and never found us, I apologize for not having a sign initially. We did later on in the night. It seems like those that came were interested in doing something again very soon. I'm up for organizing, but would like some ideas on what people are interested in getting out of this group. Or ideas on other events folks might be interested in.

This is certainly a group for younger Jewish adults. Feel free to contact me if you are older, 40's and 50's and looking for Jewish people in this age group.

Tried to find the group tonight but was at a loss to figure out who was what. Seemed the place was filled with board gamers. I'd be up for a 40-50 get together though.

Sorry about that Miriam. We were there, but I didn't realize that board game night happened until someone mentioned it the day of. It was more packed than I expected it to be. I also didn't have a sign on our table initially so we were just asking people who looked lost if they were looking for our group. It seems like there are a good amount of people in their 40's and 50's that would like an event.

I was at the pub for over an hour and could never find this group, despite roaming around the pub several times. It was my first time with this group though so I don't know what people look like, but some kind of sign might have been helpful.

We have almost made it. Tomorrow is almost upon us and therefore this event is almost upon us. I will try to get there a bit before 7. Don't know if Thursday nights are big at the Lucky Lab, but I will try to get a space somewhere in the main room. Somewhere in the middle. I will be wearing a green t-shirt to stand out and will most likely be reading a book. Or at least before anyone else shows up. I have no idea how many people are coming, but we will see soon enough.

I am an Urban Jewish single, a professional who is fluent in Spanish, converses well, etc. Originally I was very interested in this, but a few comments about age ranges made me uncomfortable. Is this limited to people in their 20's to 30's or some other age specific range?

    November 4, 2012

    • dan

There was never a set age range for this group. This is just a chance for anyone that wants to come out to this event to come out to this event. It seems there might be a large group of people that are around college age. I am 38 myself. Anyone that wants to come out should. This is supposed to be fun. If this event goes well, I promise there will be more structure to the next event.

I arrived on the east coast Friday night, for hurricane relief work & have been on the go since (this is my 1st computer access). Not sure yet my return date, so for now I have to cancel. I wish I could attend & that everyone has fun. I will hopefully be back for the next event.

I would love to do something but together! I'm one of those awesome gluten free people so doing something active would be nice. Any chance of that happening?

    November 3, 2012

    • dan

There is definitely a chance of that happening. I want to see what the turn out is for this event on Thursday as it has been a long time coming. Once that passes, I would absolutely be interested in getting a hike or something along those lines going.

    Hi everyone,
This event seems like a great idea and I'm looking forward to meeting fellow Portland Jews:). However, it looks like there are quite a few more females than males planning to attend, and since it is a singles event, I'm wondering if there are going to be many guys around my age (24) attending...

So, if you are planning on coming and in that age range, it would be great to hear from you! Also, feel free to send me an individual email/message if you are interested in getting conversation started before the meetup:)

    Thanks!

I don't know how many people will actually show up. This is a test run for something bigger hopefully. We'll see how this one goes and come up with something better the next time.

Seems to be that way, but that doesn't mean that there won't be more guys showing up. It is all word of mouth.

Wait...I just realized that this event is planned for Election Day. I might be very happy or very sad...depending.

Not saying I won't make it...but perhaps another day would work better?

    October 23, 2012

    • dan

I didn't even think about that. We are now rescheduled for Nov 8th.

      October 25, 2012

Due to the fact that it is Election Day on Nov 6th, I am going to go ahead and reschedule for Nov 8th. Hope that works for everyone.

Sorry for my delay again. The plan is to finally have this event the first full week of November. Tuesday night seems like a good day. You've gotten through 2 days in your work week and it is time to have a few beers and meet some new people. I don't have anything planned more than just a bunch (hopefully) of people getting together for some beers and conversation. You never know what might happen. How many people are still interested in this?

I am back. It seems there are really people interested in this so I'm going to go ahead and propose that we actually have an event. My idea is to keep it simple. The plan would be to have this event at the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne. It is a nice and casual place with beer and food. They also have darts and pool if people want to get crazy. I'm kidding. About the crazy part and not about the pool and darts part. I know we have the high holiday's happening now so I'm not sure if next week would work for people. By a show of hands, who would be interested in next week? If not, how about the first week of October? I will mainly be there for the social aspect of things, but it would be nice is couples were formed out of this thing. No pressure. Regardless it should be a good time. If you see this, let me know what week would work better for you and I will come up with an official date.

During either week: a little tricky, but I could probably make it. (Except on the 27th, and YK of course.)

      Weekends: I'd definitely be game.

Hello all. It sounds like there are some people out there who would actually like to do something. I can organize an event within the next few weeks. Although I am personally not single anymore, I would still like to come out and meet some more Jews in Portland. I have a single female friend I could bring along. I guess the question now is if you come to this event, can you bring a single person of the opposite sex? I've heard that in the past an event like this has tended to be a bunch of guys and not too many girls. My proposal would be to meet up somewhere like the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne as it is a nice open space and very casual and therefore probably a good place for an event like this. I am certainly open to suggestions though.

Alas, I don't know any single Jewish women...but I'd love for this group to actually have an event. (I just hope it's not too guy-heavy.) Anybody taking the ball and declaring an event would be great.

I am also interested and I am a girl:)

    March 14, 2012

  • dan

Once I have the above information I will come up with a plan for an actual outing. April is just around the corner.

    March 14, 2012

  • dan

Yes, we do. I don't know how many people are active here. According to the list on the right, there were 8 people interested. 3 guys and 5 girls. I can probably round up at least one more girl. I noticed these events tend to be guy heavy. The next question is are these people who were interested in this back in December still interested? If so, do you have other singles you can bring to an event? It would be nice if we can get an even amount of women and men or close to it.

    March 14, 2012

  • tamara m.

We need to do an event!

    March 14, 2012

  • dan

Ok. Well we need to figure out how to get an equal amount of guys and girls there. My suggestion would be that everyone who comes should bring a member of the opposite sex with them. I know that we might not all know a single Jew of the opposite sex, but we can at least start there and see what happens. Once I see some numbers I can figure out when and where we can have this.

Possibly--depends on the sex ratio. (I've attended to many of these groups that are 3/4 male.)
