37th Street Stroll

Description: Buy some dinner at the Central Market cafe and meet us UPSTAIRS in the mezzanine, above the cafe. After dinner, stroll around the pond toward the famous 37th Street neighborhood. Creative Austin residents create light sculptures like you probably have not seen anywhere else.

We walk about a mile through Central Park and the neighborhood before a stop at Amy's Ice Cream! If you're too chilly for ice cream, try their freshly whipped cream on top of a cozy hot cocoa! After treats, it's only about a half-mile back to the cars at Central Market.

What to bring: walking shoes, money for dinner and/or treats at Amy’s Ice Cream

LOCATION: Meet at Central Market NORTH
4001 N. Lamar Blvd (78756) - a long block north of 38th Street

Although it would be tempting to knock a few stars off of Bruce's exemplary ratings due to the decline in neighborhood lights, it would be foolish to denigrate someone who serves us complimentary wine at Central Market... So a job well done.

A few good houses, but the walk and talk was great. I enjoyed meeting and catching up with people. Nice hot cocoa at Amy's with house-made marshmallows!

Wholly (holy?) worth it for the sock monkey displays. Also, a nice walk with friends on a moonlit evening.

Only 7 houses doesn't sound worth it. Maybe we could plan a different event for tonight or another night?

A different event...like a walk in Central Park after dinner with fun people? Deal! See you tonight? I hope so, since we're excited to have you back in town. :-)

Bruce...had a meeting that wasn't going to be over in time, so I cancelled. THanks for the welcome back! Hope it was a great event!

    Skipping tonight. Enjoy!

Tonight's event is still on! It's still a good chance and great weather for a walk in Austin. I'm assuming the number of lights won't diminish the good food and conversation, possibly still ending with Amy's Ice Cream. We can be the light unto Austin to complement the lights of 37th Street!

Order some food at the Central Market Cafe (or grab some at the grocery), then look for the group in the upstairs mezzanine. It'll be a nice walk. :-)

For me, it's a nice walk either way, especially if we go through the Central Park area by Central Market.

Years ago, the whole street participated. Another sign of Austin changing . . .

Yes, I am going to cancel my RSVP. Though I would like to do something else with the group another time.

my husband went by last night (Monday) and counted 7 houses with lights. Last year there were several blocks with lights.

we just went past 37th street last night (Sunday), and there were only a handful of houses with lights. It did not look at all like last year.
will check again tonight to see if anyone else has put up lights.

Apparently last year, there were less than in years past...sounds like a trend. :-( Lots of pretty lights north of Austin, but not a dinner and walk kind of area.

Marla, how did it look on your second pass?

I didn't put my menorah away yet. I'll bring it to supplement the light shortage.

We can refer to this as a supplemental case.

Yes! Jennifer, our baby... and myself shall attend. As Odin's bedtime is early we may have to leave suddenly but I've wanted to meet y'all. :-)

Sounds like great fun but just found out there's a prior commitment.
