Hot town, summer in the city ...
Back of my neck getting burnt and gritty ...
Been down, isn't it a pity ...
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city ...

Man, FUNK DAT!

Summertime comes around and you can't pay me to spend my weekends in the sweltering asphalt jungle. Join me in my exodus out of town this day as we head over to the Delaware River for a little throwback entertainment -- we're going to grab some inner tubes and have an old fashioned river float.

Cost and How to Pay ...

Cost will be $29.40 per person and includes all gear and bus transportation up/down the river. Payment is via PayPal -- you don't need a PayPal account and can pay via credit/debit card.

Until I receive your payment your RSVP is not confirmed and your attendance is not guaranteed. Once I have confirmation of receipt of your payment I will move you to confirmed RSVP status.

Refunds will be given only if the meetup is cancelled, rescheduled, or requested 4 or more days in advance of the meetup date.

YOU MUST SUBMIT PAYMENT BY END OF DAY WEDNESDAY (7/24) OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND.

The Important Stuff ...

  • Distance to float will be 5 miles and we'll be on the river about 4 hours.
  • Bad weather cancels the meetup -- check your email before you leave for updates.
  • I will give my mobile number to those RSVP for the meetup. If you have any problems or questions text or call me. Please be on time as we can't wait for latecomers.

** Important: please print and fill out the liability waiver to quicken registration CLICK HERE.

Some Other Important Stuff ...

  • Wear river shoes or old sneakers at all times.
  • Wear shorts, bathing suit, a tee shirt and hat plus sun screen.
  • Bring a post-trip change of clothing and shoes.
  • You can bring drink food and drink -- pack all food and beverages into a waterproof cooler with an attached lid, and be sure to tie coolers into a second tube. You'll have to tie this to your main tube so bring bungee cords or rope.
  • Do not bring anything onto the river that you don't mind getting wet. Use waterproof cases for all electronics and valuables.
  • Whatever litter we carry in, we carry out.

Transportation ...

We will need to carpool for this event. When you RSVP please indicate if you will be able to drive -- where from and how many passengers you can carry. If you need a ride, please indicate so and where you are located -- be proactive an contact drivers directly to arrange your ride. As a courtesy, gas and tolls should be shared among all riders.

This meetup is cross-posted over in Evenings and Weekends in NYC, be sure to check there for drivers/passengers when trying to coordinate carpooling http://www.meetup.com/E-W-N-Y-C/events/109726452/

My friends, what a day. What. A. Day! I've finally recuperated from Saturday and want to thank you all for coming out to join me on Operation: Tube the Delaware. It was a great day on the water and I am glad you had a great time. My only regret is that we got so spread out on the water that I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked talking with each of you. You'll just have to come on my next adventure so I can make up for that.

  • AmerikaG

This is much a note to myself as anything: when attending one of Kevin's meetups, plan to spend the entire day. You're going to leave early, have a great time, and get home late. It doesn't even matter if you're close to home or not, you're going to spend the rest of your day with the meetup. I wish the water had been faster and that the outfitters had been ready for us at 10:30, but I'm just going to consider that part of the experience. Thank you Kevin for another adventure.

I survived my first and last time day of camping. :) heavy rain hit in the middle of the night. Awesome experience :)

    1 · July 28, 2013

    • Kevin

The rain is part of the camping experience. It's a good thing though because the noise of the rain hitting your tent keeps you from hearing the bears as they walk around outside your camping area.

Hi Kevin. I've never gone tubing before, so I was wondering are we getting off the tube and landing on shore at any point? Or if we bring food are we eating it while floating? Thanks

Tubers, I have included everything you need to know about Saturday's trip here including my contact info, be sure to read it: http://www.meetup.com/E-W-N-Y-C/pages/Tubing_Trip_Final_Details/

Hey Kevin can I bring one more person and pay when we arrive?

      July 26, 2013

  • Kevin

For those that were thinking of camping Saturday night I did a little research. In the ulitimate stroke of luck, the outfitter we are using runs a riverside campground at the location we will be meeting to begin our tubing trip.

Cost is $16.00 per person for the night and their campsites accommodate 5 or 6 people and 2 or 3 tents. They said they have plenty of availability for Saturday so doing a walk in stay shouldn't be a problem.

i notice you missed the pmt deadline. me too. i'm going for the camping. i like camping and i'm considering going Landers Camping on Friday. if anyone is really stuck, and needs a ride... consider using public transportation to the Newark, NJ, and let me know by clicking on my picture and sending a msg through the meetup system. i'll be happy to drive 3 people.

      July 25, 2013

  • Liz

Hi Everyone. In case anyone still doesn't have a ride I wanted to put it out there that I'll be driving from Hastings, NY (about 40 minutes outside the city on metro-north). If you can get to Hastings by 8am Saturday I can give you a lift, however, I won't be coming back on Saturday as I'll be driving to visit family in the area, so you'll have to figure out another ride back. (I know this is the lamest possible ride offer --but if it helps anyone . . . let me know)

People, when planning your departure time be aware that the tubing location is approximately a 2.5 hour drive from midtown Manhattan. I need EVERYONE there no later than 10:30 AM so I can check you in. This means if you are directionally challenged and get lost just going around the block, leave early. Also budget extra time in your schedule to meet your carpoolers in case they are late getting to you. I'd rather have you arrive 30 minutes early than 30 minutes late.

We have a large group going tubing and I cannot hold up our start time for latecomers. You don't want to be the focus of ire for the 47 people that had to wait for you. I also can't guarantee decent cell phone coverage up in the area to reach me on site if you are late, so avoid that by being on time.

    Questions?

  • Joyce

Hello all, I'm driving from Forest Hills, Queens, on Saturday morning and I have room for 3-4 people. Anyone need a ride?? I was interested in camping Saturday night, but it seems like there is not too much interest in that (or maybe I'm wrong...)

    July 23, 2013

    • Kevin

Agreed, I am sure Giselle and her carload plan to campout.

      Lizbet is correct.

  • Frossy

Anyone around Woodbridge NJ? I will drive if some will ride with me, or join a ride with someone else around the area. Either way is fine.

    July 22, 2013

  • Kevin

I will be closing this event to RSVPs end of day Wednesday (7/24). If you are on the waiting list and still plan on attending, you MUST submit payment to me before then.

    July 22, 2013

  • Lisa M.

Is the limit due to transportation or can we just go along and meet you there with additional people?

    July 21, 2013

    • Kevin

Lisa Marie, there is no limit to the number of attendees that can come tubing. Once you submit payment to me I will move you the confirmed attendee list. It helps me keep track of payments and also reminds you guys that you've signed up for this event. You will need to submit payment for your entire group at once though. There is no transportation provided to this event so everyone has to get there on their own. Your profile says you are from Staten Island, we have 5 or 6 people coming from there for this event so you could definitely find a carpool to have company on the ride.

      July 21, 2013

  • Robin

Kevin I sent you a paypal payment! Um update me to attending! Is anyone driving from Manhattan or going through Manhattan that can give me a ride?

      Ok, go it, thanks.

If anybody with any room in their car is passing through Queens I can chip in on gas. Otherwise, if anyone wants to split the cost of a rental, I might be tempted to pick up a car a drive.

    July 19, 2013

    • Kevin

Troy, connect with Calum on the other listing for this event (linked to above). He plans on doing a car rental out of Manhattan for this event.

  • Eric (.

Yo, big cheesy!! I think I am back in the NYC that week!! Is there camping possibility tied to this event? Fri and sat night camp?

    July 13, 2013

    • Kevin

I was thinking more like camping just Saturday night, although if people want to camp in the area Friday they can. My problem with doing this is me getting a dog sitter for all that time.

      July 14, 2013

  • Kevin

Tubers, it's been suggested to me by one of the members that we should extend this event into a Saturday night camp out. How many people here would also be interested in camping that evening in the area?
