Ok, so if you haven't been to BAMcafe before, now is your opportunity. We have been here many times and each one has been a great experience. If intelligent, culturally diverse music; a sofisticated but relaxed atmosphere; and the company of other people who enjoy such things sounds attractive to you- why aren't you already rsvp'ed, then? There's very little not to enjoy about this place. The venue is large enough that you don't feel packed in, but small enough that the performances still feel intimate. There's a happy hour from 6-8pm (and the bartenders know what they're doing). The bar menu is a good blend of regular fair and gourmet food, just so you can try something a little different if you like. Best of all, though, is that the venue is free (you still have to pay for drinks and your meal, but no cover is pretty awesome)!
The artist playing isF. Stokes. Here's a little snippet from BAM's site about him.
A former Chicago South Sider who’s not afraid to rhyme in a dapper blazer, rapper F. Stokes eschews hip-hop histrionics for unapologetic self-awareness. The same goes for his sound and style—a potent and seductive blend of witty wordplay, sobering autobiography, and shrewd commentary on how to dust oneself off and move on.

Just so you know, the reason we're going to be getting there so early is because this is a popular place. It fills up relatively quickly, and they stop letting people in after a certain point. Getting there a little early ensures that we can get seats (rather than standing) and have time to talk and get to know each other before the performance begins.
A lot of people have rsvp'ed for this event- more than I've ever gone to BAM with before. I'm glad this is something so many people seem interested in, but because of the number, if you are attending tonight, please make sure you are on time. I'm also changing the meeting time from 6:30pm to 6pm, just to make sure as many people as possible can get seats. Again, getting there on time, or early, are the best ways to get seats!
Look forward to seeing you there!
Jeff, if you look him up on YouTube, you can find videos by him. I'll post links to some in the description later.
Oh I know. I posted that comment after having watched the vids.
My point was that he seems deserving of a Wikipedia page and yet does not have one.
I concur. Perhaps you should create it. It would be the first ever meetup sponsored wikipedia page. I'm excited by this. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
coming from Brooklyn museum - never been. so depending on how that goes, lately going to be late.
I will probably be late too :( planto get there around 6:20 ish
Please add me to the late list...hoping if I lay down for a few, this headache will go away. I'm looking forward to going but not sure I'm up to it. :-(
So there are a few of us inside now, and we've pushed a few tables together. Seats are first come, first serve.
Sounds good, Joanna. Been a while since we've seen you. For those getting here late, just text me when you get here, I'll help you find us.
Ok, we've taken over a couple more tables. Get 'em while they're hot!
Does anyone have a good picture just of F. Stokes? I was joking that night about making a Wikipedia page since he doesn't have one yet, but I was Tweeting at him today and he said I should do it. Haha. Anyhow none of these pictures are quite ideal for that purpose, so I was hoping someone had photos they didn't share yet.

Somehow there is no Wikipedia page about this guy.
