Let's Dance: Salsa on the Hudson River

  • Hudson River Park's Pier 84

44th Street & the West Side Highway, New York City, NY (map)

    40.763577 -73.998581

  • The Northeast corner of the intersection of 44th Street and the West Side Highway at 6:00 PM. I will send my mobile phone number to those who RSVP.
  • Let's spend the evening on the Hudson waterfront, salsa dancing to a great live band as the sun sets, with the Manhattan skyline and Intrepid Aircraft Carrier as our backdrop.

Whether you’ve been dancing for years, or want to learn how to boogie like a pro, Hudson River Park’s MoonDance music and dance series is your chance to strut your stuff under the stars! No experience is necessary so don't worry if you've never danced salsa before, this is your chance to learn the basics as free dance lessons are provided at 6:30 by the Dance Manhattan school.

The salsa band of the evening is Nu D'Lux (formerly Nu Guajiro) and they take the stage at 7:00. I've seen these guys play a dozen times over the years and they always give a great performance. They'll play two sets and should end around 10:00.

    The Important Stuff ...

    • Bring water. They sell it onsite but if you don't want to pay $5 a bottle bring it with you.
    • Dancing is on a wooden floor so if you have dance shoes, bring them.
    • There are bathroom facilities on site.
    • Check your email the day of the event for any updates and my mobile phone number, which I will send to those who RSVP.
    • Please RSVP ONLY if you plan to attend -- no flakes allowed!
    • Rain cancels the meetup.

    Directions/Meeting Point ...

Take any subway that stops at 42nd Street/Times Square then walk West to the Hudson River Park. This event can get pretty crowded and it would be difficult to find each other in the dance area -- we'll meet on the Northeast corner of the intersection of 44th Street and the West Side Highway at 6:00, then walk in together.

If you're going to be late, call so I can look out for you.
