BAMcafe Live is back and I'm so glad. This is hands down my favorite place to experience live music in all five buroughs, and it is an experience. A beautiful space, great atmosphere, and always quality musicians make this an amazing spot to enjoy good music with good people. And best of all, it's completely free.
The performance this evening is Heloise & the Savoir Faire, who specialize in high-energy disco-laced electro-punk fitted with wry commentaries on pop culture. Frontwoman Heloise Williams, who has collaborated with everyone from Phish to members of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, is a propulsive force on the group’s latest album, Trash, Rats & Microphones, which features a guest appearance by none other than punk icon Debbie Harry. If you get a chance, check out some of their videos on YouTube. They've got a great, original sound and a flare for performace.
So if you're intersted in some good food (not a large selection, but what they have is quality), good music, and some good company, you should defintely come out to BAMcafe with us.
A quick note:
Keep in mind, the actual performace begins at 9pm, but wating til then to get there is usually a bad idea. Meeting at 7:45pm pretty much guarantees us seats. It's a fairly large space, but it's known to fill up quickly. I won't cap the attendance, but I'm only going to guarantee seats for 20 people (by getting there very early and saving them. There will be stares, they will be angry, and they will be directed at me- this is the price I pay for you). If you're interested in getting there early and helping me save seats, that's great. If you get there later and there are no seats, there will be people standing along the walls- you will not be alone. All that being said, this is always a great experience, and I look forward to seeing all of you there.
