I do a lot of karaoke in the South Bay. Hang out mostly at the 7 Bamboo in SJ. Also enjoy open mic piano bars. When time allows I visit other venues in the City and along the peninsula. Never karaoke'd in the East Bay.
Suavemente, Zoot suit riot, and Georgia (but I never sing Georgia in bars, due to tepid response); also, I can do Sinatra or Bobby Darin songs like I was their cloned-bastard Chinese offspring.
Like I said, the 7 Bamboo in San Jose's J-Town is my main hang out. I guess I'm a fixture there. They charge a dollar a song. Song selection is middling...But the place rocks on weekends. Lots of drunken dancing and cheering on of singers...
I think for a Meetup activity, we need to do *more* than just meetup and then each of us sing some karaoke. I mean that's what we do when we go out and karaoke on our own. As a *group* we can do things, group songs, nurture first-timers, share personal karaoke CD's (during the event) , share advice, point out songs you think someone might like...and stomp, whistle, and dance for one another and others.
