Paddle Practice and Georgia River Network Fundraiser

Did you take John Miller's beginners' class and haven't paddled since? Maybe you want to practice your skills. Do you need to tune-up for the coming paddling season but don't have a boat yet? Join us Sunday at Stone Mountain Lake. We'll spend two hours paddling and along the way we'll answer any questions you have, coach you on techniques you learned in the class, and help get you ready for a summer of fun on the water.

I have led many river trips as an event organizer with Atlanta Area Paddlers. Outside of that I've paddled a couple thousand miles both solo and with friends. There's no substitute for learning but experience will help you be confident and enjoy paddling. This is what John calls “butt in the boat time”.

We (Suzi and I) will bring you a boat, PFD, and paddle. You only need to bring something to drink and weather appropriate clothing. You're welcome to also bring a waterproof camera to take pictures of the wildlife we're likely to see.

This is a fundraiser for Georgia River Network open to a maximum of two other paddlers. To join you must RSVP to this event on Meetup then within an hour donate $25.00/person to GRN via our canoe-a-thon site at http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/SuziandGlen/paddle-georgia-2013. Your tax deductible donation goes directly to Georgia River Network. As such we cannot provide a refund. In case of a heavy rain we will reschedule your trip.

These events are part of our fundraising for Paddle Georgia 2013.

If you have a Stone Mountain Park pass we can meet you at the boat ramp. Otherwise we'll meet you near the park and drive you to the lake and back to your car after we paddle.

what a great idea! Indian Springs State Park lake is another terrific place to teach beginners. If you head that way, in your fundraising efforts, let me know. I'll bring another boat or 2 for your teaching day.

Is this paddle open only to those who have taken the beginners class or can anyone join in?

    • Glen Smith

Sandra - You're welcome to join but this is not a substitute for a good beginners class.

I joined this group after all the beginners classes were done for the season. It looks to be a leisurely paddle. Am I eligible to come?

Carey - you're welcome to join but this is not a substitute for a good beginners class.

    Hi Glen,
I did Kayaking couple of times by myself but did not go under official training as such. Can I still attend this event?
