Last Safety/Intermediate class of 2014. What to do when your boat turns over!

I have now introduced over 1200 people to paddling.  I know that some of you still do not feel very comfortable paddling on your own, so this course is for you.

If you are still not quite sure what to do if you go swimming, this course is for you.

If you do not know how to properly use a throw rope, both from the shore and from the water, this course is for you.

We will review the basics of paddling but then we will learn several different ways to deal with a swamped kayak, both in still deep water and in moving water.  The more you know about self rescue, the safer things will be for you and your paddle partners.

If you do not have your own boat yet, a boat, paddle and PFD will be provided.

All you need to bring is food and water.

We will put in at Johnson Ferry Park and take out at Paces Mill.  You do not need to set your own shuttle, we will do this as a group.

We will be on the water until 5:30 or 6:00.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call me.

It is always interesting watching people change during this class. Most go from afraid of flipping and swimming to , "can we do that again?" I know that the graduates of this class are safer on the river than 90% of the people who paddle with no training of any kind.

Excellent! It was exhausting fun dumping the kayak and climbing back in mid-river. It was fun doing the T rescue. The rope rescue skills were tougher than I thought. Good to learn with patient instructors. My confidence on the river shoot way up. That's what I wanted - thank you!

Howdy All! What an awesome class!!!!!! I feel much more aware of what to do when something goes wrong and how to prevent the problem before it gets out of hand. Hands-on-experience with getting back in the boat as well as getting othes back in their boat is hugely valuable; I can't imagine a better situation to learn these skills.

The course was excellent. The class leaders were great . This course is a must if you want to continue to Kayak. The basic class was good but this class is a wake up call to what you do when the boat goes over and you are in the water. John Miller as I said does a fantastic job. His staff is the best!

Had a great time yesterday. Excellent class to understand the basics of kayak safety. Paired with John's beginners course, this provided me with the knowledge and "butt-in-seat" time to pick up the kayaking bug.

Glad to learn the basics with John, Clint, and all the rest of the instructors. Now off to properly outfit myself for fun.... and safety.

It was great! I really enjoyed it and meeting everyone. Greeting back in a kayak was awesome and I'm hooked again!

If you are debating or wondering if it's worth the money . . . IT IS!!! I took the beginner class a couple different years, then this year followed up with the intermediate class to learn rescue and safety. ANYONE GETTING ON THE WATER SHOULD TAKE THESE TWO CLASSES!! Self-teaching water skills is not the way to go folks! You can get hurt or worse! No matter what you think you know, these classes are for everyone spending time on the water! You'll be amazed at how much easier and more enjoyable your paddling will be and how confident you will be with the skills learned in these classes.
