Re: [kayaking-229] Sweep the Hooch Clean Up Saturday, April 14th.

Your email helped me 100%.  I will not sign up for AAP as I do not have a boat.  I will sign up with UCR and then go to the cleanup.  I love to do things for the community (nation or world) so this cleanup is what attracted me to UCR, etc.  Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.  Perhaps I will see you at this event, but you will probably be on a boat and that could make meeting hard.

Thanks again and have a great day,  Elizabeth

LOL,,, Sorry for the confusion.   I sent this to everyone I could think of to make sure you all got a chance to play and did not do a good job of explaining.   AAP is for Atlanta Area Paddlers, that is a group I run so all my grads will have people to paddle with.   About half the members there have taken one or more of my classes.   Most of the events with AAP do require you have your own boat so most beginners do not join that group until a bit later.

The cleanup is actually being run by UCR which is Upper Chattahoochee River Keepers, we will have members working in most of the groups along the river that day along with several hundred volunteers from all sorts of organizations.   It does not matter which section you volunteer for, just pick an area convenient for you.  If you do not have a boat, no problem, they always have shore based volunteers also.   I promise if you do this, no matter what section you work, you will meet some great people,,, and you will leave, hot and dirty,,,, but all for a good cause.  So, just follow the links to the sign up with UCR and you will be OK.

You can join AAP if you want, but again, that is mostly for people who have boats already.  I am not sure but I think you may get a free years membership with UCR if you do a cleanup, if you don't, their fee is worth it for membership.  I belong to so many groups I lose count.

Hope this helps,
John

Hi John,  my name is Elizabeth Rutledge and I am a new member to Kayaking-229 and I have a few questions.  I want to sign up to help clean up the Hooch but think I am not doing it correctly.  The website written below your email (see below) is not for AAP (or I do not think it is).  I have filled it out nevertheless, but am not sure which location I should mark.  Will your group all work in a certain location?  If so, could you please tell me which one.

I do not know what AAP stands for, but I assume the Internet will tell me and will show me how to become a member.  Since I have not ever paddled (is this standing on a surf board and paddling?) I will sign up for walking or wading.  Is this the best choice and do you prefer either walking or wading?

I just want to make sure I do everything required.  Do I need to join the UCR, the AAP, and register with your group (I am already a member, I think).

Thanks for helping me out.  This is not an emergency, so reply when it is convenient to do so.

Hello members,

If any of you have a desire to get wet and dirty for a good cause I recommend that you consider taking part in this massive cleanup effort of the Chattahoochee River Park.  Even if you are not a paddler yet you can take part, meet great folks and feel good at the end of the day.

This is the message that went out to our sister group.  Most members of AAP do have some experience and their own boats but if you are not a member of that group yet, feel free to join.

Thanks, John, Organizer

Upper Chattahoochee River Keepers is doing a clean up of the ENTIRE RIVER PARK from Buford Dam South.  I believe there are still some spots left.  The sign up information is below.

I do have a favor to ask,  If any of you have already signed up for this through UCR but did not indicate on the Atlanta Area Paddlers site that you were attending, please take a minute and check that you are attending.   I like to keep an idea of how many of our members help with these projects.  If you have not volunteered yet, please do so on the AAP site then complete your registration for one of the spaces by following the links below.

Thanks so much for being part of our paddling family,

John Miller, Organizer

To register with UC Riverkeeper you MUST sign up at https://www.signup4.net/Public/ap.aspx?EID=20121312E Click Paddler,  and Azalea Park (or any other section as the person may wish) as your section to paddle.
