GO KAYAKING

  • April 6, 2013 · 10:00 AM

Mike and i are looking to go kayaking this weekend.  Not sure where- it will be water dependent.  If anyone is interested in going either Sat or Sunday, please contact me by letting me know which day is better for you as well as your experience level.  This time of year we tend to tackle some challenging creeks because there is actually water in them.  We don't want anyone to go swimming.  You will need a change of clothes and a small snack or lunch.  We like to plan on a full day starting at about 11 and going till almost dark. Let us know IF YOU WANT TO GO...  I do not need to know if you are not going......

What a wonderful day, and place to get the boat wet for the first time this year. Buffalo Creek is a very nice stream, and only 12 miles from my home. It is now one of my favorites! Anyone wanting to do it, ring me up. I would love to show it to you.

Thanks, Ben. I would like to go, but it looks like this weekend will not work out. Next time?

I, unfortunately, need to be back before 6 on Saturday. I would love to go, but I could only realistically stay out until dark on Sunday. Thoughts? Make plans for next weekend?

Ok folks, Mike and I decided that we are going to go Saturday. Weather wise it looks like the better day. We will go on buffalo creek from hukill road to the Ohio river. I will send complete directions when I have access to a computer. We will meet between 11 and 1130. Can't wait to get on the water!!!! :-)

I would like to go, but I do not have a boat. Happy to provide a shuttle if someone has an extra boat or seat in a canoe!

Hi diana, i will give directions once we decide for sure. You can bring the canoe, i have canoed on this stretch. it is up to you. Cheryl, i am not sure about where to learn to kayak. I am sure you can post a question on the general forum and someone will have some direction to give you.

Would be interested in joining your group if you go on Sunday. My husband and I have two kayaks and a canoe. We have experience on relatively flat water. As this would be our first time joining your group, will you be giving directions as to where and when we are to meet? Would it be ok to bring canoe or is it only kayaks?

Hey Ben, yeah, i know where that is and have gotten out there before. typically it is really muddy. we will see. Looking at the weather, looks like saturday is the better day. Still not sure what day we are going though. I will keep you all updated. Ok Barry, just keep an eye on the meet ups. If you've done the middle, you will be fine. A fun one down this way is Cross creek. there is a really nice class II-III in the middle - lots of fun

I don't live that far from Bethany and Wellsburg, and would normally like to go but can't make it this weekend. I've done the middle Yough (class 2) once, and other than that, some flat water. Please keep me in mind in the future. Barry

    Sunday?

    April 2, 2013

  • Ben S.

Linda, I just looked at Google Maps, and there is a wildlife area about a quarter to a half mile up stream, on the right side of the road, just beyond a car repair shop. It has a large parking lot, and easy access to the Creek. I think it would be a better take out then the place we met last year. There is a road that goes to the creek bank, and I even think there is a beech.

Sunday is best for me too! Where would you put in in Bethany? Meet at the takeout you were last year? I think there is a boat launch area with parking just a bit upstream from where we me last summer.

    April 2, 2013

  • Ben S.

How about Buffalo Creek, Wellsburg? Wheeling Creek is a foot above minimum so Buffalo should be the same. Last year, we were in the water three times by now. What a difference this year with temperatures averaging 12 degrees below normal each day. The weather Saturday is going to more clear, but not as warm as Sunday. Sunday it could get into the 60's!

Great possibility. if it is a lil higher we can even start up at the college... we will see. i'd kinda rather go on Sunday because i am supposed to go to a wedding shower on Sat. Mike and I did go kayaking on his birthday.... Even though it was only about 50 degrees.....
