I'm planning a paddling trip on Memorial Day weekend. This will be 3 seperate trips on 3 seperate days, Saturday, May 25th; Sunday, May 26th; and Monday, May 27th. We will meet at my place at 641 Canal road, Apollo, Pa. 15613 at 9:30am on all three days, set up a shuttle, and proceed to the putins. We will do lunch on the river so please pack a lunch for yourself. Camping is also available at my place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. Please be specific as to what day(s) you will be paddling, and if you will be camping. Please fill free to pitch a tent along the river, and there is limited floor space upstairs in the garage. The garage has a full kitchen with a stove, microwave, and 2 refrigerators. Bath and shower facilities are available upstairs. Please bring you're own towels and personal items to shower with. For those camping, fill free to make you're own breakfast in the garage, or we can go to the Creekside Diner for breakfast. After the paddle on all days, and after were cleaned up, I'll fire up the grill and make something to share with the group. You should also bring something for yourself for dinner. After dinner, I'll build a fire along the river and we can enjoy the evening. Please bring a chair to sit on around the fire.
Saturday: The Conemaugh river from the outflow of the Conemaugh Dam to Saltsburg. Meet at my place at 9:30am, set up a shuttle the the outflow of the Conemaugh dam and paddle to saltsburg. This will be a 9 mile trip.
Sunday: The Conemaugh from the bridge at Blairsville to the takeout in the backwaters of the Conemaugh Dam. Meet at my place at 9:30am, set up a shuttle and proceed to Blairsville. If the water is high enough, we can explore the "swamp" at the gamelands. This will be a 9 mile trip.
Monday: The Kiski River from Saltsburg to my place above Apollo. Meet at my place at 9:30am, set up a shuttle to Saltsburg and paddle to my place. This will be a 12 mile trip.
All three trips are mostly class 1, with the exception of Monday where we will have 2 short stretches of about 100 yards of mild class 2 "fun foam". The water level should be high enough to get through on all 3 trips, unless we go into a drought, at which time I'll check the river gauge to see if there doable. If there not, I'll change the venue of the paddle but we will still meet at my place at the prescribed time.
