A Paddle on the Kiski in 4 parts

Hey all,

I'm planning a paddling trip on Sunday, September 8th, 2013. This trip is in conjunction with the Soup Hike which is being held at my place on Saturday, September 7th, 2013.  For more informatin on the Soup Hike, please go to the Pittsburgh Hiking Group, and click on Soup Hike for Saturday, September 7th.   About the Soup Hike, basically people bring something to share with a few people, soup, brownies, pie, snacks, etc, and then we do an easy 6 mile hike. Upon returning from the hike, we sample the various goodies. This trip is in 4 parts. You can come to all or any one of the parts. When signing up, please be specific as to what part(s) you will be attending.

PLEASE READ THE HEADINGS CAREFULLY.

Part 1 -- Hike. Saturday, September 7th. Meet at my place no later than 2:30pm for an easy 6 mile hike.

Part 2 -- Dinner. After the hike, at approximately 6pm, we'll feast on the various soups and dishes that people brought to eat. You should bring a snack or something to share with a few people, (6 or so), brownies, a pie, chips, etc.  After dinner, I'll build a fire along the river and we can enjoy the evening and share tales of incredible feats. Please bring a chair to sit on around the fire.

Part 3 -- Camping. Everyone is welcome to camp along the river.  In the morning, we'll do breakfast at the Creekside Restaurant acrss the river from Apollo. The shower is available upstairs in the garage to freshen up. Please bring you're own towels and personal items.

Part 4 -- Paddle. Sunday, September 8th, 9:30am.  Meet at my place no later than 9:30am, set up a shutte to Saltsburg, and do a leasurly 12 mile paddle on the Kiski River. We'll do lunch at Avonmore, where there is a pavilion and porta potty, and then proceed to Copper Head Cove for a a swim break. We'll then proceed to my place and take out. The Kiski is a docile class I river with a couple of spots of mild class II "fun foam".

After the paddle on Sunday, I'll fire up the grill and make burgers for the group.  We can also munch on the leftovers from the previous days Soup Hike.

You're welcome to come early on Saturday to stow things and set up a tent.

Sorry missed this outing due to an foreseen family issue. If anyone is interested in paddling somewhere I am available 9/17 and 9/20 evening or day. I really want to meet new people since I don't really like paddling alone. If anyone wants to meet up and paddle sometime feel free to text me[masked]

Thanks guys. She had a stent put in (had a total blockage in right artery). Very close call. Hopefully she is well on her way to recovery. Enjoy the trip ... sounds like an awesome event.

In addition to the burgers that I'll be making, there may be some food left over from the previous days Soup Hike. If you want, a simple snack would be fine.

Hi - I've bought a kayak, just need to figure out how to get the rack on the car and the kayak on the rack.
Sunday only for me - other plans on Saturday. I'll bring something to share with the burgers, though.

    September 1, 2013

  • Diane A.

Hi, just joined today. Can't make the Sunday paddle, hope to make church. If I come to events, should my husband sign up separately - officially join? - or just come with me? If we go on the Saturday hike, can we bring our dog? She is exceptionally loving and friendly.

Hi Steve, my coworker Jesse would like to come to the paddle on Sunday. He has his own kayak. Does he need to RSVP separately? Alden

    August 10, 2013

  • Steve

    Diane,
Yes, I have you down for a yak under the Soup Hike.

    August 8, 2013

  • Diane

Hi, Steve ... under the Soup Hike I responded via email about needing a loaner kayak, and you confirmed availability ... seeing this new post, I've RSVP'd here, but don't want you to count me twice! ... currently I'm planning on parts 1, 2 and 4 ... there's a small chance that I may need to cancel my participation in parts 1 and 2 because of an earlier commitment that may spill over into my afternoon and evening, but I'll definitely be there for part 4 on Sunday ... looking forward to meeting everyone!

    August 8, 2013

  • Alden L.
