A Paddle on the Kiski in 4 parts.

I'm planning a paddling trip on Sunday, July 27th.  This trip is in conjunction with the Soup Hike, which is being held at my place on Saturday, July 26th, 2014.  For more information on the Soup Hike, please go to the Pittsburgh Hiking Group, and click on Soup Hike for Saturday, July 26th.  A little about the hike.  Basically, folks bring something to share with 5 to 6 people, brownies, cake, pie, snacks, soup, etc. and we go for an easy 5 mile hike.  Upon returning from the hike, we sample the various goodies that people brought to share.  This trip is in 4 parts.  You can come for one, or any one of the parts.  When signing up, please be specific as to what part(s) you will be attending.  The garage has ample outlets to plug in crock pots.

Please read the headings carefully.

Part 1 -- The hike.  Satrurday, July 26th, 2:30pm.  Meet at my place and do an easy 5 mile hike.

Part 2 -- Dinner.  Upon returning from the hike, at approximately 6pm, we'll sample the various soups and dishes that people brought to share.

Part 3 -- Bonfire and Camping.  At dusk, I'll light the bonfire and we can enjoy the evening, and share tales of incredible feats.  Please bring a chair to sit on around the fire.  Everyone is welcome to pitch a tent and camp along the river.  In the morning, we can go to the Creekside Restauraunt for breakfast across the river from Apollo.  The garage has full kitchen and bath facilities.  The shower is available upstairs in the garage if anyone wants to freshen up.  Pleae bring you're own towels and personal items.

Part 4 -- The Paddle.  SUNDAY, July 27th, 9:30am.  We'll meet at my place and set up a shuttle to the put in at Saltsburg, and do a leisurly 12 mile paddle on the Kiski River.  We'll paddle 4 miles and stop at Avonmore for lunch.  There is a pavilion and porta potty there.  We'll then paddle another 4 miles to Copper Hewad Cove, and take a swim break.  We'll then paddle another 4 miles to the take out at my place.  The Kiski is a slow moving class I river with a couple of spots of mild class II "fun foam".

After the paddle, and the shuttle vehicles have been retrieved, I'll make burgers on the grill for all attending.  There may also be some items left over from the previous days Soup Hike.  I'll ask for volinteers to help retrieve shuttle vehicles.

You're welcome to come early on Saturday to stow things an set up a tent.

It was great seeing everyone on this trip. The rain held off, and thank you Terri for manning the grill and cooking the burgers and dogs.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
