A Party and a Paddle, on the Kiski River.

Saturday, at 2:15pm.  Meet at my place for an easy 5 mile hike up Roaring Run Trail.  Everyone is requested to bring something to share with 5 to 6 people.  (Pie, cake, brownies, chips, etc.)  Upon returning from the hike, at approximately 6pm, we can sample the various goodies that folks brought to share.  After dinner, and around dusk, I'll light the bonfire, and we can enjoy the evening sharing tales of incredible feats.  Please bring a chair to sit on around the fire.   Overnight camping is suggested.  There is plenty of room to pitch a tent along the river, and the garage has ample floor space to put a sleeping bag.  The garage has a full kitchen and shower facilities are available upstairs.  Please bring you're own towels and personal items.  If you can't make it in time for the hike, you're welcome to come for the feast or bonfire.  You're welcome to come early on Saturday to pitch a tent.   For everyone camping, we can do breakfast at the Creekside Restauraunt across the river from Apollo on route 66.

Sunday, at 9:30am.  Meet at my place for a 12 mile paddle on the Kiski River.  The Kiski is a docile Class I River, with a couple of spots of mild Class II "fun foam".  We'll set up a shuttle and put in at Saltsburg, and paddle 4 miles to Avonmore and do lunch.  There is a pavilion and porta potty there.  We'll then paddle to Copper Head Cove and take a swim break.  (water temperature pending)  From there, we'll paddle to my place, and take out.

After the paddle, I'll ask for volunteers to retrieve the shuttle vehicles.  After the shuttle vehicles are retrieved, I'll make burgers on the grill for the group.

If you don't have you're  own boat, I have a limited amount of yaks avaiable for use.  I only ask that you help clean and stow them after the paddle.   If you need to use one of my boats,  please e-mail me thru this site, and if you would, include you're e-mail so I can verify directly back to you that you have a boat.

we got lucky with the weather on the river. it turned out to be a fine day indeed. it was a narrow band of rain that moved through, and showed up as such on the radar maps.

Thanks again Steve for your amazing generosity in sharing your home and facilities and boats! It was a great two days and the only shame is that so many people let themselves be scared off (from the paddle) by the weather forecasters.

Hello, and it was nice to see everyone. After a 10 minute rain delay in the morning at my place, the paddle and post paddle cookout went on under partially sunny skies.
I have found a cell phone case, and a pair of water shoes, probably ladies. If you are missing these items, please e-mail me and through this site and include either you're phone number or e-mail so I can get them back to you.

Absolutely fantastic day on the Kiski today. Weather and water conditions couldn't have been better. Enjoyed meeting everyone. Thanks, Steve, for organizing the trip and cookout after. Hope to meet up with the group soon for another trip.

I'm going to wait till morning to decide if I'm heading out. Weather is heading this way. It's over Indiana right now but that puts it in western PA Sunday morning-ish.

    Hello all,
Due to water conditions, we will be putting in at Avonmore on Sunday morning, not Saltsburg. I paddled from Avonmore to my place Thursday morning, and it is good. The water level went up 3 inches on my gauge since then. This will be an 8 mile paddle instead of 12.
We will meet at my place no later than 9:30am on Sunday morning.
For those who are comming to the festivities at my place on Saturday, see you then.

    Jason,
I'm glad you and you're wife can make the hike and camp. As far as Dogs are concerned, I'm sorry but I have to say no to bringing you're pup. There were issues with unruley dogs in the past, and for that reason, I had to bar them from the activities here.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
