: (A location has not been chosen yet.)
Aspiring sea kayakers, here's a trip for you - circumnavigate Presque Isle State Park in Erie, 15-16 miles of beautiful & challenging paddling! We'll put in at Beach 1 and paddle east past all of the beaches, come past the lighthouse and through the channel into the bay, and then through the lagoons. We'll paddle 1-1/2 miles of open water across the bay to Downtown, then along the city's waterfront. We'll take out at the first bay-side parking area in the park, and walk 1/4-mile to the Beach 1 parking area to retrieve our cars. The entire trip should take about 5 - 6 hours, excluding driving time to Erie.
This is an advanced trip for experienced paddlers
. You must have a touring or sea kayak and be able to paddle long distances in challenging conditions at a steady pace. Spray skirts and rescue skills training are recommended. Pack a lunch and plenty of water & high-energy snacks. If you plan to attend, or if you have any questions about the trip, please call me at[masked]-9772.
We'll meet at 7:30 AM at the Portersville park-and-ride lot at I-79 and Rt. 488 (approx. 40 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh) and drive up to Erie from there.
No matter how many times you've been to Erie, this will be a unique experience!
