Announcing a new Meetup for Pittsburgh Kayakers (ka-"yack"-ers)!What
: Middle Yough PaddleWhen
: Saturday, September 11,[masked]:00 AMWhere
: Wilderness Voyageurs Outfitters, Ohiopyle
Looking for something a little bit adventurous? On this trip, we'll paddle down the middle Youghiogheny, between Confluence and Ohiopyle. According to the DCNR map
, this beautiful 10-mile stretch of river has seven rapids, all class I or II. What's class II? "Class II: Novice - Straightforward rapids with wide, clear channels which are evident without scouting. Occasional maneuvering may be required, but rocks and medium-sized waves are easily missed by trained paddlers." In other words, not too difficult, but not for beginners. Meet at Wilderness Voyageurs Outfitters in Ohiopyle at 10:00 AM. I'll be there early, (hopefully) buying a new kayak, and this will be its maiden voyage. Don't worry if you don't have any whitewater experience; I don't either. So it will be the blind leading the blind on this easy stretch of river. Recreational kayaks are OK for this trip. If you don't have a kayak, you may be be able to rent a craft
from Wilderness Voyageurs. They don't have kayaks, but they have tandem canoes and various kinds of rafts. Bring lunch, water & snacks. Any questions, call my cell at[masked]-9772.
