Join Friends of the Riverfront on Saturday, October 23 to help celebrate the completion of the new Three Rivers Water Trail kayak launch at Westhall Street on the North Side! The dedication ceremony will begin at 10am at the Westhall St. trail access and will be followed by a reception with food and drink. They will also celebrate the addition of their newest Interpretive Sign relaying the importance of riparian buffer zones.
Westhall Street is a great launching point, with easy river access and plenty of free parking. It's 2.75 miles up the Ohio River to the Point. From Westhall Street, you can paddle 3 miles around Brunot's Island, or paddle around the tip of the island and go up Chartiers Creek in McKees Rocks. For a more adventurous trip, paddling 3 miles downriver will take you to to Neville Island the Emsworth Lock & Dam.
After the festivities, we'll do a short paddle up the Ohio River & back. This trip will be beginner-friendly, staying close to shore.
Friends of the Riverfront are responsible for many of the amenities that we kayakers now enjoy along the rivers, and they have more great projects in the pipeline. Even if you don't come out on the water with us, please stop by to check out their newest project and to thank them for their hard work on our behalf!
