Announcing a new Meetup for Pittsburgh Kayakers (ka-"yack"-ers)!

What: Rolling class @ SRU

When: Thursday, October 21,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Aebersold Recreation Center @ Slippery Rock University
Stadium Drive
Slippery Rock, PA 16057

Want to learn how to roll your kayak? Then come out with us Thursday evening for a pool class at Slippery Rock University.

Why would you want to learn to roll? Among the reasons:

  • Builds self - confidence
  • Improves your safety in challenging paddling situations
  • Great way to cool down during summer trips
  • Makes you more relaxed on the water
  • Entertain others, especially land-lubbers

The class starts at 7:00 PM at the Aebersold Recreation Center (ARC) pool. The cost is $8 for a one-day pass for the ARC - the class is cheap, and the water's warm! Show up a little early to register, and to get a boat (first come, first served, they supply the gear). They use whitewater boats, but the instructor assures me that the skills are the same for touring & sea kayaks.

They hold the class once a week on staggered days. I plan on going to multiple classes to get good at it and get comfortable under water. If you're interested, you can meet me off the I-79 Zelienople exit and we can ride up together. More info at the SRU Web site.
