South Florida Kayaking Meetup Pages

"Life is good... KAYAK IT!!!"

We're an active group of fun, friendly, paddlers that enjoy being on the water.
Living in South Florida we have an almost endless variety of kayaking options, and our Meetup group should take full advantage of them all. Because of this, and with members of different skill levels and interests, I am planning to have several events each month. This will give us plenty of fun and exciting kayaking options to choose from.

APPROPRIATE CRAFT
Most paddled water-crafts are welcome... sit-on-top (SOT) kayak, cockpit-style kayak, canoe, surfski, etc. Inflatable kayaks (aka Duckies) are not appropriate for this group because they tend to be much slower.

WHAT WE DO
Events will range from recreational to sport, which are geared to highly experienced kayakers. We'll have trips during the day and at night, nature to urban routes, and those that make the most of the warm summer months and the cool winter ones. We'll usually meet somewhere between Boca Raton and Miami, but trips further north and south are planned too. From time to time we also mix it up - have some kayaking trips that include other activities (like snorkeling, diving, or social things). We also post courses taught by local BCU instructors that can take you from novice to expert.

NOT A BEGINNER OR GUIDED TOUR GROUP.
If you're a beginner or first-time kayaker please click on the links at the end of this section for information on kayaking instruction so that you can build some paddling skills and participate with this group. We occasionally will have a clearly posted Beginner (SK1) trip that all are welcome to attend.
Courses offered locally.
Further information.

IF YOU ARE NEW TO ALL THIS OR ARE CONSIDERING BUYING YOUR FIRST KAYAK PLEASE CLICK ON THIS LINK!!!
The article you'll go to is not intended to be the last word on what to buy, more like the first advice on how to make up your mind.

IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON JOINING US FOR NIGHT TRIPS PLEASE CLICK ON THIS LINK!!!
We've written a short article on how to get lit - please read it before asking questions.

PLEASE CLICK ON THIS LINK TO READ THE TRIP RATING SYSTEM.

We have a six-level rating system that takes into account most likely conditions to be found on a trip. Any single condition (current, waves, crossing distance, etc.) can make a trip more advanced than you might expect it to be. There will be speed ratings posted, as well as distance/duration expected, and a description of any difficulties you might expect to encounter. KNOW YOUR ABILITIES!

There is no cost for membership; however, contributions to help with Meetup fees and the time/energy to maintain and build the group are appreciated.

Your input would help a lot. Be sure to check out the group polls and/or tell me if you know of any good launch sites or paddling routes; any other ideas too.

There is important information on the Latest Added Pages.

From the ocean to the waterways... be ready for a lot of fun and great kayaking. smile

DISCLAIMER: Each member is responsible for their own safety while on the water. It is highly recommended by the group organizer that members wear a PFD (personal floatation device) AND be sure they are physically prepared for the challenges that even recreational kayaking may include. The group organizer and other members may be able to offer you the benefit of their paddling knowledge; however, they assume no responsibility for your safety or liability in the event of an incident during an event.
