Wednesday Night Paddle

RATING - Beginner SK2 (click on link to see rating info), Night Trip, approx 5-8 miles, Medium Speed

This trip tends to have flat water, currents up to about 2MPH under some bridges, and can sometimes have brisk winds, though we usually pick a sheltered route on windy nights.

LOCATION & DESCRIPTION - This trip launches from George English Park (the park at the corner of Sunrise and Bayview Drive, across from the Galleria) and has about a dozen possible routes depending on wind and current. This trip can be as long (or short) as we feel like making it! Snacks/dinner afterwards sometimes, location TBD.

LAUNCHES - There are two launch points in this park, a very nice sand beach right at the corner of Sunrise Blvd and the Middle River (but don't park there), and a flat rocky beach near the Tennis Center toward the north side of the park. Regulars usually launch from the Tennis Center.

KAYAK RENTALS - Kayak rentals are not available for this trip.

PARKING - FREE at the Tennis Center launch - don't park in the metered area, there are occasionally break-ins over there.

GEAR - BASICS plus NIGHT TIME GEAR. Please visit the GEAR page link for specifics!

Hi Joanne. My wife Margie and I are on our second Kayaks. Our first kayaks were bought " blind" from a salesman who didn't really explain much to us about the various types of kayaks and handling characterists of each. as novices, we went by price and the salesman's recommendations and bought two sit on boats. They are fine for putzing around but are slow and cumberson to paddle. We now have two sit ins and they are much more efficient and fun to paddle. My advice to you is to take Whitney's offer to try out both boats at one of our meet ups before you make a purchase.
