RATING Intermediate SK4, about 4 miles distance (plus playtime), strong currents, tidal rips, possible wind waves.
Join us for a fun morning playing just outside Bear Cut!
TRIP DESCRIPTION - Meet at Crandon Park Marina, paddle out Bear Cut, and hope for waves! If you have little experience with waves and want to grow some, this is a good trip. We plan on spending the strongest couple hours of the falling tide playing in the waves off to the south side of the cut - it's usually a fairly benign place to play, with beaches near to take breaks on. Alternate - If it's glassy smooth out we'll plan on paddling the 8 miles around Virginia Key instead.
LAUNCH - There is a sandy area all the way to the south of the launch ramps at Crandon Park Marina for kayaks and canoes. Parking is Master Meter style.
GEAR - BASICS plus SELF RESCUE GEAR, TOWING GEAR, SPARE PADDLE, HELMET suggested. Please visit the GEAR page link for specifics!
